Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Depends if you want one locally (and what it is you do!), there's poo all down here at the moment hence why I'm going to be working away from Devon in the week and coming back home at weekends.

Had confirmation that my request for redundancy has all been approved so there's no turning back there, have been given my notice at my current place of work which I'm a little sad about :(

But means i'll likely be accepting a job in Swindon and starting there in June :)

Went for a second interview (for the same job) today and thought I royally screwed it up when I got asked how I'd deal with a certain type of situation and I gave what I thought was the most retarded answer ever.

Don't know what I did but they phoned up at 4:50PM and offered me the job. I start on the 4th April :D

25 mile trip to and from there by bus to start with though :/

Second interview was a success!

ACA graduate trainee role. I've been asked to move up shortly and work over summer, if they like me and I like the place, i'll start in September.

Still shocked :).

Anybody got any experience of bogus jobs advertised through job agencies?

I am currently unemployed and looking but thing is I applied for a job a few years ago.
I can't remember much details, but let's just say that it was under the role of "sales and marketing assistant"
Now the actual job itself was basically those poeple on the street that ask about credit history and then you had to get them to sign up to something if they needed financial help.
But the whole interview (it wasn't even an interview, they didn't even speak to us individually just around a large table) was explaining more or less a pyramid scheme of eventually owning your own company, like when your able to sign so many poeple you can than have poeple working for you, have it under your own business name and but they provide all the leads or street zones to work from, and then when those poeple were trained they'd then have a team underthem and could operate "by themselves" -_-
Now this has put me off applying for anything with "my client" or anything that doesn't specify a company name. Anyway to rid out the non-geneine adverts?

I've also noticed a lot of companies add on "marketing" to titles when really it's just b2b sales, is this me not understanding marketing properly or them basically being dodgey, again they basically just mention "my client."

Oh and when I did apply for the job it was through s1jobs.com.

Quite a lot of job ads on job sites don't mention who the recruiter is acting for so it's nothing to worry about too much.

Well my situation is pretty much sorted now.

Have taken voluntary redundancy from my current role (government place that's being closed), and have accepted a job with a large retail financial company as a senior security consultant. 10 weeks left here then I'm gone.

Pay is a 12%ish drop but it's a very good job.

Still got some other companies wanting to interview me, but unless the job is pretty special I doubt I'll change my mind.

So nothing to help sort out the "cons"?

For jobs like the one you posted it'll be tricky, for things like IT jobs it's a bit more clear cut as to what the job is, usually anyway!

Most recruiters will tell you who they are acting on behalf of if you enquire, just that they don't often put it in the ad.

Anyone else get really annoyed with the "Must be motivated and a team player" bumf companies seem to put in the job adverts?

It's a given isn't it? You don't see "Must be able to read and write" on job adverts so why the above? It always seems a little out of place when sat underneath X, Y, Z technical requirements...

'give examples of when you have been motivated and working as part of a team' - hate this stuff. Been unemployed for 2 months now and I'm getting fed up of the same crappy job descriptions/person specs.

At the moment I'm doing more hands on stuff related to security controls to ensure compliance with things like ISO27001, SPF and various other government standards (as we're kind of a government department).

So design and implementation of all the techy security bits, not so much the network config as that's handled by another company.

Also look after the vulnerability management stuff such as the scanning and reporting system. Taking the scan reports and then looking at what's been picked up and then doing stuff to fix things :)

The new job is basically as a pen tester, and the 2 interviews I've got this week are for large consultancies. One is as a techy security consultant, the other is more of an info security manager to own the security side of things on their contracts. So they all vary from being pretty hands on to possibly being more of a manager.

Will see what happens though, these 2 other companies seem really really keen to see me and have arranged to see both on one day this week up in London.

Will be a tough decision if I do get offered any of them though as the one I've currently accepted is pretty much perfect in all but the pay offered, I think the others will be around 20%+ better paid but maybe not as fun.

First day of my new job today. Not looking forward to the commute.

Bit apprehensive about the whole thing really but then again I'm apprehensive about most things.
