Forgot how bad job searching was :(

What are the best days to send ones CV in? I've read it best to advoid Mondays and Fridays due to full inboxes.

Anytime is the best time and asap!

But I would agree with your timings and send them in about 8am ready to be the first one in the inbox.

Could some people please go over my CV please. As much feedback as possible would be great, oh and don't laugh at the job titles :p

Also what are the best IT agencies out there to get my CV with?

I gave it a quick scan, I think it could be refined just a little.

I wonder if it's entirely needed to state reasons for leaving your previous posts, seems like a waste of a few lines.

A big waste of space is your date of birth, I've been told time and again its not needed at this stage. I would hesitate to add the same can be said for the bit about your d/l.

It's all very tidy and flows nicely.

One last point, at the end you mentioned you want to hit up Japan. I would play with the wording here so its less obvious to a potential employer that you're planning an extended vacation. Last thing they want is hiring someone whos gonna be taking a few months off a short hop down the line.

Some applications do request a drivers license but I would say it shows a skill. Learning to drive isn't something everyone can do and it demonstrates many skills and may at least be relevant to them in some way.

I may not know much about CV writing but I know you shouldn't put anything on it that they can use to discriminate like age or nationality or even if you smoke. Even though its illegal, people might do it subconsciously.

As above, take you DOB off, it's useless, let them read the CV and go 'hey, this person is pretty good'....Then they have to interview you without going, oh wait, he's 45 or he's too young etc :)

Got an interview for an apprenticeship in quantity surveying on Monday morning, any tips from anyone in the trade on here would be most welcome!! I am buzzing, it's such an awesome thing to come up after 18 months of trawling, I really hope I impress.

Just came back from an interview today. Must have been in and out in 20 mins. The job is just a 3 month fixed term which I guess I'll be okay with and then at the end she mentioned the pay, £12k pro rata and I just don't know whether to take it even if I am offered it. Been job searching for a while now but it just seems like a low amount of money.

What would you do in my shoes if I get offered it next week? Go with something to keep me busy despite the lower pay and keep having a look out for jobs in my spare time or hold out for something better?

I suppose its that old chestnut, something is better than nothing. :(

Something is indeed better than nothing. I am earning a lot less than £12k while looking out for other things just because it's better than nothing. Although admittedly I would be better off moneywise without a job it's just not for me to do that.

They also say it's easier to get a job when you've already got a job. :) If it's only 3 months you get some money + some experience? Can't be bad.

Spelling mistakes like "Qualifations" wont help either, try to keep the style as professional as possible, informal cvs look a little immature to me.

slowly creeping up to 6 months out of work now, got a feeling il be out of work up to two years the way things are now, took me a year to get my last job and that was down to knowing people no chance of going back as they have finaly taken on full time guys.

So, the company who offered me a job last friday have been bought by capita this morning.

Currently bricking it as they may cancel my job offer.

Well I've just been offered a job. :)

A proper one too, my first (hopefully) long term proper job. Scary, looks like I'll be joining the daily Commute!:D
