Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Holding thumbs for good news!

Looks like you're going to have to hold them overnight. Absolutely fuming. Not to mention I have my boss inquiring as to whether or not I will be giving my notice in. Not only is it embarrassing but also extremely frustrating to be expecting news for the second time to be let down. The one thing that royally ***** me off is when people don't stick to their word.

I applied for a job at LloydsTSB, after I passed the online tests I got an email saying that my application was on hold. The closing date for it was on the 13th... today I got an email saying that the vacancy had been filled. Soooo annoying!

Held down a job now for 2 years. Don't ever ever ever want to go back on the dole. When I was on it, I was at my lowest. Depression and everything. Will never go back to that. They treat you like garbage at the job centre.

Welcome to the world of job hunting :)

Over the last 6 months I've had a fair few companies mess me around one way or another, and not small places either (IBM, HP to name a couple).

I already have work but am looking for something closer to accompany my recent house purchase.

I'm down to the final 2, they have seen the other candidate who had postponed today.

I also seem to have been misled in to believing I would know if I have been successful or not today. Instead I will have some 'feedback'

The feedback I have received has been very positive which is good however waiting is a ballache.

That was worth the wait :) got the confirmation call just after 8PM.

Very good timing for me, I'll be starting in December. I'm moving to the area 6/7 weeks before, 2 off those I have off work to move in and another week of that I'm on holiday with the missus so return to a new job.

Phewwicanbreathenow. :D

Congrats!

I'm thinking of switching jobs due to commute. It pays pretty well but it can be a 4 hour round trip. It's much better to be looking for work when already employed though.

Thanks.

Definitely. As long as you have valid reasons, of which the commute alone would be enough I would imagine. Also puts you in a better position as you're not desperate for a job.

I have been off work now for 4 months since finishing 3 years temp working for the Met Police. I have sent off over 200 applications, CV's and letters and got about half a dozen replys. Today I finally went for an interview for a part time admin job for a pretty large housing association in SE London not too far from where I live.

Got a call back this evening from the recruiter. She said they were so impressed by me they offered me a full time, permanent position they hadn't decided they were going to make available. Not great money, but I'll save 120 quid a month on fares as it's a single 30 min bus journey instead of a 90 min commute. I start on Nov 7th, I'm well happy :)

Cool

Aylesbury to Thame is pretty painless from what I remember :)

Do you know much of Aylesbury or?

Yeah, about 12 miles or 20 minutes, according to googlemaps. Though I plan to be at my desk around 7:00AM so I miss rush hour traffic and can drive faster if necessary (and safe to do so).

To be honnest I don't know much about Aylesbury other than what I have read and seen for myself. It seems to be fairly self sufficient in that it has all the shops and facilites I will need. The direct line in to Marylebone is also handy too.

Anything I should know?

Yeah, theres a couple of tescos for instance, several petrol stations, local shops depending on where you're moving to...But yeah the train link to London is a welcome, although can be slow depending on which train you get :p

Nothing major...The evenings can be dodgey in town, but it's like any town/city I guess...Hate to say it and don't mean it in any sort of bad way, but it is reasonably heavy on the 'asian/pakistani' population within the main town.

I know a couple of people who live there anyway, including my brother :)

Oh and theres a fair wack of availability on the bus front, ie you can get to Oxford and surrounding places quite easy, and probably Thame to be fair.

I'm sure theres more I could tell you :p

Thanks.

Yup that was my reasoning for leaving a job I've only been in for 5 or so months.

I've always looked for work/got new jobs whilst still being in one.

Sonds fairly reasonable. I haven't a problem with other cultures or religions as long as they aren't a nuisance. Ta for your input :) If you're passing, and my home gym is set up, I'd be happy to take a look at your form/shoulder.

It's a fairly good reason to want to leave, it's not negative in anyway. One of my reasons, other than the commute, lack of praise or recognition, lack of progression and the insecurity of contract work was I have a new colleague that grinds my gears. I didn't tell my interviewers that though :p

Sure thing, Aylesburys only a few minutes away from me anyway, well...10/15. But would be cool to get some advice on everything...As the only critique I get is via videos posted.

So i'll take you up on the offer! :p Just send me a trust email or something one day

All the best in the new job though, just need to get my finger out now

well after contact the agency to inform them im fit (or there abouts) to go back doing what i was, i had a rather worrying conversation with them about this agency workers directive (formaly the tempory workers directive).

for those that dont know about it, it was implamented to stop agency workers being shafted and to force companies to take on long term guys.
after working for 12 weeks at the same job you get the same pay and conditions, problem is if they lay you off for 6 weeks your 12 weeks start again.

now the fun starts as the agency says they can only do this once, so you get 12 weeks work, 6 weeks off and then 12 weeks work and go to a new job. as far as i know though its not like this and they can just keep laying you of for 6 weeks.

also if you work 1 day in a week that counts as a week, so you could do 12 a day weeks and thats it for 6 weeks if its at the same job.

either way if they can repeat the 12 weeks in 6 off more than once most fulltime agency staff will be out of pockect 18 weeks or more a year now.

and the way the jobmarket is here now god knows what il be doing other than twiddeling my thumbs a hell of a lot

as this started oct 1st i can see a nice big jump in claiments in january when the first 12 weeks are up.

Tips on salary negotiation would be welcome.

I've been offered the lower end of the spectrum for the position, which is what I'm currently on. Though I was hoping for a slight increase.

There is a company bonus scheme of at least 5% in December depending on company profitability and individual performance, along with salary reviews in January. As I'll be starting in December I don't think I'll be entitled to either of those until Dec '12 and Jan '13. After a year healthcare is an option as is a pension scheme.

I have all the skills, bar a little excel training to do the job. So feel, and don't blame them, they're trying to get me as cheaply as possible.

I plan to re-iterate my skills and excitement to work for the company and what I can bring but that I was hoping to nearer £x (+ £1k-£1.5k) and feel that due to a performance review being unavailable until January 2013 and not being eligible for the company bonus scheme that this is a reasonable offer.

I'm unsure whether it would be wise or not to mention that I was hoping for a raise as quite bluntly we all hope for a raise but it has no justification behind it and that my request can only be reasonable if it is justified.

If they were to comply I would imagine if I specify between X & Y, they would offer X. So I would make sure that X is an amount I am actually happy with.
