Former Russian double agent seriously ill in Salisbury.

Wow, Russia don't even really care how blatant this is.

So we're supposed to believe that they went on a 4 hour round trip from London to Salisbury, to spend an hour there looking at a random Cathedral.

Oh god this is just embarrassing now.

Two Salisbury cathedral super fans!

World famous no less. With a high spire.

Maybe it didn't live up to the hype :p

I meant yeah it has historic relevance sure, But you've come all the way here for a cathedral and don't fancy Westminister, St Pauls, Southwark or Oxford which are all close to where they stayed.

Get em all in surely?

Clearly no one told them about the £20 glass of Champagne tourist trap up top of the shard either

If one can invade another country and simply deny it, I guess you can send out two Russian assets and claim they got cold feet after 30 minutes. I was half expecting the scene from South Park where the Romanian father is held at gunpoint asking for his daughters to be returned :p.

There is way to deal with this....

Take them both out using our secret service, but ensure there are loads of pictures of Daniel Craig and ideally, Rowan Atkinson on a tour of their local city.

Then Memes all over the internet of Johny English taking out the two whilst Daniel Craig smokes a fag.

"We don't even need our best man"

Because they need the west too and can only go so far. I was watching a couple of interviews yesterday with Russians. both of whom were of the view of Russia is now worrying. It will give a strong indifferent front as that is they way of working, but they have been caught and will probably see more evidence in the coming days of who these people really are and need to watch how far they push the west as they don't want to go too far. Don't take Russian indifference and a cocky leader was a real representation of the global landscape was their point and I am of the same, though less informed opinion.

All reprisals will covert and targeted sanctions. The Russians will never want to admit that it's working, because it makes them/him look weak, and Putin's power is basses on an appearance of strength.

Anybody who can look at what's happened, compare it to previous behaviour and evidence on other incidents involving the Russian government - then come to the conclusion that it's a conspiracy theory by the UK government, must have low levels cognitive ability and mental function.

Everything coming out of Russia is nonsense, just like it is after every outrage that happens - 100% lies. Anyone who believes what the Russian government are saying needs to have a word with themselves.

It's one the three pillars of the Axis of ignorance.

What about Vodka? That comes out of Russian right? Come on peeps, this is actually a pointless thread, no one in it that makes a comment is ever going to know whats happened here or who did it. For a start we dont have the security levels needed :D. We may as well just leave it to the people that do have the power to do something about it because none of us do. Its just pointless

I'm genuinely fascinated by that kind of behaviour and would love to see someone do a study on it honestly.

I just don't get it and i resort to thinking "troll" or just "thick" but tbh I think both are easy options

For the Russians it probably doesn't matter overly much if they "get it right" or not, the message is sent - betray Russia and you're never safe no matter what agreements are made.

Problem is I doubt they'll be able to try it again, I bet every Russian that enters the UK, US and some European countries is going to be monitored pretty much 24/7 now

I also don't understand why they've not been accidentally killed considering they failed their mission, it doesn't exactly send a message when the message is "Betray mother Russia and we'll maybe kill you if we get lucky because we're inept and cause a lot of international issues for our country in the form of sanctions"

That is of course unless not succeeding was part of the plan all along

I'm hoping for CCTV showing them in the streets near the victims house.

LOL!! I'm looking forward to RaohNS and Danny75s lapping up of this as proof they didn't do it! :D

One of the CCTV images already showed them on a nearby street. Please do catch up. :)

CCTV5 showing them somewhere on Wilton Road:

Russia's story has so many plot holes it should be a Hollywood movie.

"Yea...we flew 1000s of miles on fake passports to visit one Cathedral in a very un-touristy area, then flew home a day later without our luggage. On the same day an ex-Russian spy was poisoned by Russian nerve agent. Perfectly normal, what's the problem".

It would look less suspect if they said nothing. But Putin said they were going to talk to the press, so they had to go on camera looking guilty AF and wing it lol

No chance,

A) theres two many of them
B) When that bloke who was in Syria for 3 years learning to make bombs, he arrived back (using his passport) and was Wanted, he managed to get himself to Manchester, relax a few days and carry out his attack.
In other words, I don't think our intelligence is anywhere near at the level it needs to be to actually do that
