They should keep the military assets deployed until Syrian jets think it's safe to RTB and then unleash hell.
But then they'd kill the Russian advisors on base

What do you mean normal? Do you think Putin might send his tanks into eastern europe attached to balloons filled with Helium ... floating tanks?
Or maybe his troops will be painted pink or something?
As for the other kind of war the one with ... big big bangs and radiation.. naa he aint going there, he is mad but not that mad.
Old Russian jets are no match for what the US can throw at them, they would just be swept away like Iraq's were.
But how are the us planes vs the latest Russians SAM systems in syria?
Guess we'll find out won't we, as soon as an American pilot dies, i dont see how it wont escalate into total conflict.
Some proper doom mongers on here, it wont escalate to that level, some people need to lay off the Hollywood.
will Trump blow seven shades out of the place and Russian troops? What will Putin do then? Escalate in a war he has absolutely no chance of winning?
Didn't people say that when the Russian pilot was shot down?
I dont think we're going to see any kind of real strike maybe a few missiles into an unmanned bit of a base or a runway even the defence Secretary in the US is saying we shouldn't strike.
A more interesting thing could be we may see America's "nice and new and smart" missiles going up against Russian missile defence systems.
If that a technology test either side would relish or rathet not reveal capabilities to the other?
But Russian trips are at Syrian base snow America can't just fire on themPutin does owt more than fire a few missiles at US missiles and he will be kissing his ruski butt goodbye.
Outcome of this will be the allies will destroy a fair bit of Syria's military, if the reds fire at an ally ship or launch platform then its all up in the air, and likely to be a big ***********
Putin stands no chance against NATO and he knows it, unless he plays the big N card and that is a very very big game changer.
Nah that's putting weapons in Space. Anti satellite missiles are owned by all the big powers China tested one a few years ago which ****** everyone off because it left a lot of trash in orbitI thought there was a treaty restricting those kinds of weapons

President Xi oversaw the largest naval parade in Chinese history yesterday as Beijing announced military exercises in the narrow strait dividing it from Taiwan.

Most likely Russia's defense system is nonsense. But the US won't want to let them know that, so most likely it will be something basic using old tech.
The west has the advantage of having Russians defecting to them and handing them information, almost none go the other way.
S-400 is reasonably decent and there is an export version. They have some issues with more sophisticated target selection like with its replacement that make them easier to overwhelm with saturation than the on paper numbers suggest but otherwise seems to be the real deal.
