Just reading up on how to actually craft things since I had some legendary rifle drop. Not overly intuitive!

Getting the hang of the game a little now. Crafted the Epic Copper Founders Bearcat shotgun, man that thing rocks. Need to stock up on some ammo for it though!
Still not made the legendary sniper rifle I have, I'm not sure it does a great amount of dps compared to what I'm using at the moment. It's not got a scope so I don't know if it's going to be really worthwhile over a decent assault rifle. Is it maybe better to save loot like Active Powercells until a later point in the game? I've still not got any of the Blast Powder I need to make the rifle anyway mind...

You craft blast powder from your inventory - its in the tab which shows all your resources.
Yeh found that after posting. Decided maybe I should google where to get it. Felt a bit silly then 
Ended up crafting that legendary rifle. It isn't much better than one of the ones I was using but meh, it does the job for ranged targets. Really needs a bigger clip but it will get that if I level it up to 15 or something... Although maybe by then I'll have better weapons all around anyway.
