Forza Motorsport (10/10/23)

I tried editing the games file for the graphics settings, Im not convinced it worked but it turned the game into a crash fest in the options menus so maybe it did.
Basically changed the npc liveries from 1024>4096 the same as the player car and then doubled/tripled all the shadow sizes, cube maps, window reflections etc and changed the max hi res shadows from 16>32
Then turned on GTAO under raytracing.

I should probably take some comparrison shots with GTAO off/on to see if it even does anything and see if that setting is what causes the crashes but I don't have time right now.

No crashes during a race though if I could get into one,

I've never played a Forza game, are any of the older ones worth picking up on the cheap?
you can just buy 1 month of game pass and play this new one, or buy a cdkey for forza motorsport 7 but the cheapest place seems to be £15, I don't think any of the normal etailers have it listed for sale any more, because MS lost a bunch of the licenses or they expired.

the forza horizon open world games are probably on gamepass too and if you buy gamepass the normal way its about £9

Tried this when it came out, thoroughly disappointed!
Graphics look pants compared to the last Horizon, fully cranked at 1440p and it looks incredibly dated vs a Horizon game? which makes no sense considering this isn't a massive open world map, so surely if anything it would be possible to look better with such a smaller 'map'?
The handling seems rubbish too?

Quickest I've uninstalled something in ages!

Thanks for the tip. Had to go looking for the right file to edit. I've done similar updates to the cube maps and shadow sizes. Along with using some very basic reshade settings (mainly to sharpen slightly and remove the green filter), I'm pretty happy with the results.

Downloaded this today on gamepass....I enoyed the game play but it looks like crap with my setup!
5800x/ 16gb 3600mhz/ 3070ti 1440p ultrawide.
Iv set it for 60fps with no RT and it looks like its playing the game with low settings....and it cant even manage 60fps online lol. Im not sure if my pc is that crap or its a issue with the game.

7900XTX and 5800X for me and even at 1440p with no RT there are tracks where I get lows of 45fps, lowest at 4k was 52fps (ish) so seems to be a struggle on the CPU side of things (also just generally naff performance and lacklustre visuals as others have said).

I miss Forza, both the proper game and horizons. they are the perfect balance between sim and casual for me.... and I also like the career structure.

however I am done with 2D cockpit games on a screen and with them flatly (boom boom) refusing to support VR I just would not enjoy it any more (I tried with drive club on PS4 and it was just dull for me now :( )

Regarding the track going black I had the same issue on my old 500gb Evo Sata SSD. I transfered the game to my 2tb SN770 nvme and the track is completely fixed after 3 hours of gaming.

I'm running it on a 970 pro nvme and I get the black track thing.

I refuse to accept that a 970 pro nvme is the cause of a racing game not rendering an average looking track. Games could render tracks in racing games just fine on HDDs for years..

Yeah seems pretty stupid, but sticking it on my brand new nvme has 100% fixed it for me. Not sure if your 970 is faster, if not then I am guessing the issue is the way they are loading the tracks and the extra read speed is brute fixing it. If the 970 is faster then no idea. Be interesting to see what others are using who get no black tracks.

All I know is that mine is fine now, I had black tracks on every race before as well.

It is faster (although likely not for sustained tasks due to the sn770 not having dram like the 970), but that still means Turn 10 have failed immensely.

(I meant 970 EVO plus (not pro))

A 970 Evo Plus is one of the fastest PCIE 3.0 nvme drives though, and if they can't get their very average looking racing game to maintain a track on it, then...well.

weirdly haven't any track issues at all on mine to date. Getting a solid framerate was a pig but otherwise its been behaving ok.

I am running it on a WD Blue SSD i think (that or a KC2000 NVME) but neither are rocket ships .....
.
its a massively enjoyable game and I am loving playing it, it just seems tarnished by these frustrating graphical issues. My biggest bug bear is the horrible jagged reflections no matter what I do

so took all day but finally downloaded via game pass, wow wheres the simulation gone, i turned off all assists, as never use them, and best way to learn is knock them off to start with and you dont even need them, the cars are on rails  i dont mind the practice as need to learn the tracks again been over a yr since last played forza, but im sure it could become repetitive. doesnt look that great compared to F7 tbh, seems they have tinkered around the edges, with RT around 60fps on my undervolted 3070 DLSS balanced, but tbh dont have it on, im there to race not to look how fancy a reflection and the lighting is:D

Not sure if it the patch or I have finally worked out good settings. But now have everything ramped up with no RT, 60fps solid in all conditions no problem. Graphics are transformed! Looks really pretty.

So happy now as been loving it regardless and this is the extra tick in the box

That patch did nothing to fix parts of the race track going missing during races, still happening and it's totally random.

Maybe in the next patch

On another note was watching someone stream this earlier and his frame rate was tanking like mad into the 30s&40s with a 3080 and other times it was totally fine, was quite frustrating as all he wanted to do was race.

I think the game has a massive memory leak.

after playing for few hrs, come to conclusion the AI are utter ***** they just ram you off, or T bone you every opportunity they get. lost count number of times i had to pit as been taken out and get damage as run full sim options

and either new drivers or patch has messed my settings up, stutter crazy town it is
