Forza Motorsport (10/10/23)

Finally saw the trailer. Yay not doing rolling starts. Boo weird race companion / AI person saying sound bites.

I noticed on the customisation menu that there is a "Toggle Card" button. This makes me think there is some kind of perk system or upgrade cards system (which I think FM7 had?)

In older FM you had a manufacturer level which made car upgrades cheaper across a whole manufacturer's cars. Note that eventually upgrades were like 75% off (or even more) if you got mfg level high enough. It was great because you could level up a mfg with a normal/fast car (like a corvette) and then mess around by doing a 6L V12 engine swap into a Chevy Matiz and it cost basically nothing. Now we have a car level, perhaps the same thing will apply but on a car by car basis.

Still cautiously excited though.

Live stream on at the moment showing the game. Anyone else watching?

The concept of levelling up cars is somewhat concerning. I hope it's just giving some XP that can go towards upgrades, and not some nonsense that directly affects the cars physics.

Just watching that stream myself and had the same thought about the car levelling up. Does sound like it's used to unlock parts and I think car point to install parts rather than using currency. Still hopeful for this but judging by all the recent AAA releases and the last game, which was good but had issues such as too many cars and little progression, I still have a lingering doubt

Yeh they talked about it in a bit more in the interview segment a few mins ago, sounds like it is just for unlocking upgrades for a car, rather than having to spend credits. Estimate of it taking around 3 hours to max out a car and have all unlocks available. Seems a reasonable approach I think. The tuning sounds pretty promising, with all the components that might change the sound of the car doing so - used to love fine tuning a few bits and pieces on the older games to make them sound as good as possible :D

Bummer w.as excited about this game, but sounds like it's going to be a bit boring, I think I prefer the credits as currency model. Last FM game I played was fm4 and loved it, but the ones after just never seemed to have had the same excitement about them.

I was hoping the latest FM would be a significant improvement, but now I fear the worst, gran turismo at this point seems much better.(even if they have monetized it to grab as much cash out of people as possible)

CSP is a paid mod and messes up the AI cars if racing against them, so not really amazing.
What? CSP is free. The preview version is paid, which only adds a couple of features such as rain.
What do you mean it messes them up? It actually benefits AI with new AI features in Content Manager, this is what CSP is all about.. extending the game with brilliant extra features over vanilla.

No one plays Assetto Corsa without mods or CSP.... CSP is the MAIN mod for Assetto Corsa. You clearly do not know what you're talking about. I've been modding the game for years and know it inside out. I could post loads of videos of me racing against AI on numerous tracks, yes there have been some issues but nothing major. Certainly a lot better than vanilla AI.

You specifically mentioned rain, which is paid

Using extended physics, which you use for rain, messes the AI cars up https://youtu.be/Gn5g8mSCfg4?t=159 https://youtu.be/qqV-thoxPHU?t=213

Perhaps you don't know what you are talking about.

Modding for years, big whoop so have I.

You said CSP is a paid mod and messes up AI if racing against them.. I said rain at the end of the sentence as an extra. I was referring to CSP in general and how it's changed the game completely. AI is a lot better now with extended physics in rain, one tiny area of the game and you said it's bad?

I don't know what I'm talking about ok.. I make mods for Assetto but yeah I have no idea what I'm talking about

Edit: ok to clear the confusion, when I mentioned rain is amazing I meant in how it looks and how the engine was never designed for rain. But it's definitely come a long way and Ilja is only going to make it better. Unless Kunos have got him on board for AC2 :D.

CSP on a whole isn't bad, as it's obviously made the game what it is today..

I bet you don't even know what PBR is.
AI is not. At least you know what extended physics is now.

This is off-topic.

nighty-night mod-master

I already knew what extended physics was though... you were the one who got confused and took my rain statement as a generalisation of the whole game and CSP.

I definitely aint a mod master either you clown

Career mode stuff.

:(
wish I bought playstation 5 now for gran turismo. GT looks better visually for a start, and I prefer the gameplay.

aas I've got gamepass I'll give FM a go but I really don't see me liking it. A big part of the fun for me was upgrading the cars just for the pure fun of it.
