FTL - Faster than Light, Space Rogue - ( INDIE )

I still haven't unlocked other ships... :(

I only know how to get 3, get to the 5th sector for the Engi, in the Zoltan homeworlds (civilian) complete the peace envoy mission for that one and in Mantis homeworlds (hostile) kill the crew aboard the famous Mantis guy's ship for that one.

Enjoyed the game a lot, until I finished first time then it feels too repetitive, I would love to see an expanse on this type of game but in detail, exploration instead of running away from a fleet :]
Anyone know of one that might be like that?

I personally quite like the Kestrel as it seems like a balanced ship. I have just completed the game for the first time using the Type B Kestrel but it seemed like my new technique made the game a lot easier. I aimed to visit every available node in each sector only just making it through the portal without being caught by the rebel fighters (happened twice) and by also hitting every nebula possible to slow them down. This gave me LOADS of scrap (I think my session total was around 2700 or something) and the Kestrel was maxed out at the end fight with 8 crew members on board.

My layout was:

4 Shields
53% Evade
10 sec Cloaking
Pegasus Missile (2 for price of 1)
Halberd Beam
2 of the original Lasers

The final boss was pretty easy really as the dual missiles took out the shield quick, the lasers were firing on the weapons bays and the Halberd Beam was taking out the drone room. The 2nd interation of the boss was a little tougher as I had to redirect my attention to using my two Mantis' to take out the boarder drones but eventually it went down. The final iteration went down in around 40 seconds... was really easy for me.

Now need to try and unlock the Mantis ship as I want to try a ship boarding play through and have not even attempt a single board yet.

This game is so addictive.

I have trouble with that one too. I'm going to try again tonight, by upgrading the cloak as much as I can afford. Even one level up would give me 10 seconds under cloak, which pretty much guarantees me the first shot. If that shot takes out their weapons, then it should all be okay. Trouble is I can't remember the starting guns for that stealth ship. Are they enough to take down a 1 point shield and hit the weapon array?

But if you want a crazy tough start, try the engi cruiser with Layout B. No sensors, so you can't even see inside your own ship, and only one crew member.

Starts out with two weapons, a blaster which fires 2 shots, and a laser with the smallest line ever. I did what you did, upgrade the stealth length first, but the problem was that they would usually be able to fire a missile off before I could fire my laser, which is 2 damage off the bat. Wouldn't like to try and fight the boss with it, the only defence you have is the cloak, and that is active for a max of 15 seconds, then you have a much longer wait for it to recharge, and especially in the later levels I don't think it will be enough to stop them. Perhaps if I can get hold of one of those Engi emp blaster things that fires super fast it would do the job.

Well obviously you have to buy a shield system from a store at some point. I just tried the stealth ship and the cloak alone is fine for the first couple of levels. You just have to time your shots. The way to fight the early enemies is thus: instantly cloak, which lets your guns charge up while the enemy guns don't. Fire the dual laser at the enemy weapons. The first of the two bolts will take down the shields while the second bolt does some damage to enemy weapons. Immediately follow up with the cutting beam on the weapons, while the enemy shield is still down.

Time it right, and the enemy will never get a single shot off at you. Of course it's a good idea to buy a shield system before going to the later levels.

From what I can tell it's better to use the short cloak because if you cloak as the enemy fires their shots appear to miss.

Wait, you can buy a shield? Well, that changes things significantly. How much is it?

So annoyed :(

Destroyed the flapship easily. Didn't know you'd have to fight it twice. Ran out of missiles on the 2nd fight. :/

Are missiles the only way to deal with enemies with 3+ shield bars?

Ion cannons to disrupt the shield system, fire bombs to start fires in the shield system room, attack drones constantly pummelling their shields... many ways to do it. Just experiment a bit.

Or just enough raw firepower in well timed shots. Also the federation cruiser has an automatic laser weapon that seems to ignore shields. You can't aim it though so you just have to hope it disable something important.

Annoying: whenever I have loads of scrap and need some hull repaired and some fuel, there are no stores to be found anywhere. Just an endless parade of tough enemies that gnaw away at what's left of my ship.

Maaaan, had a cracking shot at this last night with the Engi ship. Upgraded the most I've ever done, survived well and got to the boss with almost full hull, two heavy lasers, ion cannon and two drones (defense and anti-ship). Had pilot systems maxed, 3 shield layers, all systems manned.

Just couldn't get through their shields. Managed to get a couple of shots on ONE of the missile weapons, which was soon repaired before I could get anything through. Meanwhile, they PUMMELED me with rockets, taking out weapons, shields, engines, oxygen all just as quickly as I could repair them. Didn't stand a chance!

You really need to board them to be honest... I found it a lot easier when I did.

How do you teleport people back to your ship? I've waited for the cooldown, clicked the bottom button but I can't click anywhere after that. Lost 2 dudes because of it.

Click on the button, then on the people you want to teleport back

Er, any way to get it full screen on my monitor? Both fullscreen options seem to make it a 720p thumbnail in the middle of the screen. Tried adding settings in the ini file, doesn't make a difference.

The devs said it currently isn't possible. I can't remember exactly how they said it, but I think it was that everything is sprite based, so there's no way to simply change the resolution. The only way to would be to double the resolutions in both directions to keep everything the same aspect.

Cool, thanks.

Well on this run, the boarding strategy didn't work at all. My rockman and mantis man lost a fight to 2 humans. How is that even possible. They didn't even have a medbay.

Me in sector 3: Teleport my two mantis over to the enemy ship. Let them kill the crew. Hold on, what the hell, the ship blew up?!?

I forgot to turn off my autofiring guns...

*ragequit*
