Fuel up/down again

Paid 130.1 for bog standard unleaded last night...bleh, bad times.

we've got 2 shell station in leeds. One is very competitive and keeps up with the supermarkets - that's 123.9 for regular unleaded. The other is usually at least a penny more expensive than anybody else and is always empty and even that is only 126.9

The local Jet Station and the local Morrisons are 123.9 as well.

Sorry I've re-read what I typed and I should have been clearer.

Cameron didn't say that they currently don't get enough revenue from fuel duty, that was my personal commentary on the situation.

However, he has confirmed that there will be another duty rise in April.

He said that the January rise and the April rise have been inherited from the previous government and that the coalition can't reverse the decision.

He then goes on to proudly sate that they have been able to overturn Labour's planned NI increase. How can they reverse an NI rise but not a fuel duty rise?

Haha Fox :(

But it keeps everything nice and clean inside too! CLEANZZ!!!!11

I will moan but at the same time, I'm happy to pay that extra 6p a litre for the fact it keeps the fuel system nice and clean, tiny improvement in MPG, helps prevent your EGR system/Intake manifold clogging up, etc.

So shhh :p

It is compeltely imaginery benefits - you have a totally ordinary 4 cylinder two litre diesel engine. It is completely fine on conventional diesel, this is what it is designed to run on. These 'super diesels' did not even exist when your engine was introduced.

If you continue to use it, please stop complaining about fuel prices because you are un-neccesarily hiking your fuel bill. Normal diesel here is 127.9 at the moment.

What he said.

I'm not doing it for any performance increases, like I said, I'm doing it for the cleaning properties, which is hardly an imaginary benefit and like I mentioned before, it does sound a lot smoother at idle with this stuff. I admit the latter might be imaginary but I'm pretty sure it isn't :p

If you must delude yourself kindly stop complaining about your self inflicted fuel price rises.

So you're saying that the expensive fuels, both petrol and diesel don't give any benefits of keeping the engine cleaner etc

If that's the case then I will stop right now but I always thought that that was the case

I'm specifically talking about expensive diesel in lower end engines - petrol is different as some petrol cars are specifically designed for certain fuels.

Look in your handbook. It will also cover the 130i I would imagine and will state you should use 97 RON for a 130i but wont state you use super expensive diesel in a 120d.

But that sounds like you think I'm talking about my engine getting a performance increase out of it, which I know is not the case and is not the reason I use it

Surely any engine, despite how naff and how old, will still get the same benefits from the cleaning additives and what not they put in there. I do a lot of town driving during the week, and sat at idle in traffic or at low revs means my EGR valve is getting gunked up and will eventually clog. If I can use a fuel that's cleaner burning and is "supposed" to help keep my engine clean to prevent or slow down that process, I will. But if I've read wrong and normal fuels will do the same job then I'll stop wasting my money, just I was led to believe it's only the more expensive fuels that do that

Paid 135.9p per litre yesterday for V-Power :(.

LPG/Cooking oil diesel/not having a car is starting to seem very tempting to me right now.

6p isn't that much, it feels it at the time, but if it prevents my EGR getting clogged, which then leads to my intake manifold getting clogged up also, surely it could save me money in the long term for any potential work needing to be done.

Even if it slows it down by something tiny like 5-10%, if that 5-10% means it doesn't happen while I own the car, then I'll be happy
