Fuel up/down again

I've just worked out that a rise from 1.15 per litre to 1.30 per litre is only going to cost me £136 per year (5000 miles at an average of 25mpg split between Focus and Boxster)

My annual bike tour to europe will be about £38 more expensive (2500 miles at 45mpg)

All of my mileage is leisure as the office is only 1 mile away from my house, so basically it will have no impact on me, although obviously that doesn't take into account the knock on effect of transport costs for other things I'll buy.

Sooner or later there will have to come a point where long commutes and ploughing up and down the country in rep mobiles will become the exception rather than the rule.

Are there any decent loyalty cards or anything these days?

I use a full tank a week and currently simply go to the nearest station (Esso or Shell depending which way I'm going) and just stick it on my credit card.

To the people that fill their tanks up for their normal driving (i.e not for long trips of 100+miles), you do realise that your MPG is also affected by the extra weight you are carrying.

I'm sure it is. As is the extra weight of me not going for a dump before getting in the car, having an umbrella in the boot, etc etc.

I hate buying fuel so I always brim the tank - that way I have to go less often!

If you are putting it on a card, get a cashback card and earn the benefits that way. The points cards aren't very rewarding.

Filled up the fiesta earlier today, mainly town driving £39 to fill it till first click, average 31mpg over the past few weeks.

Considering the 330Ci got 23mpg the difference really isnt worth the huge drop in comfort. Can't wait till I find a replacement.

Shock as Fiesta with 50 year old engine with EFI bolted on is not significantly more economical than a modern engine. I mentioned that in another thread, the Endura-E is properly turd.

How would this be policed anyway, how do you determine who lives in a "remote" area? Would eligible persons receive some form of discount card to present to the fuel vendor? Dont get this

Post Code Lotto. Those within London clearly wouldnt be eligible.

But then how do you actually receive the discount given that you will need to be able to buy fuel all over the country? In addition to this how do you avoid everybody and anybody with access to a rural postal code falsely registering for this?

I thought that people living in rural areas choose to live there, they are not forced, why should the other people pay for their choice in life?

So the people born and bought up in these areas who now own the houses but can't afford to move into another area - is that their choice as well?
