Fuel up/down again

I don't understand it either - I think my old Petrol Corsa was in a bad way, perhaps it had a leak.

But I promise I'm not making this up at all, I tot up my Fuel receipts every week with the help of the Torque Cars MPG calculator and the highest I got from my Corsa 1.4 was 31mpg before it started getting bad, the lowest was between 25 and 27mpg.

55mpg is the average I now get from my 1.7 Diesel Corsa, but it has been as low as 47mpg and it mostly stays between 52 and 55mpg.

Bearing in mind, I pay the higher tax rate for my Diesel Corsa, because it's a 1998 model.

Makes my ST sound like it has good fuel economy :p

Oh, and what does get my goat is that the Government / HMRC haven't increased the official approved mileage rates for using a private car for business for many years, possibly 2002 (the PDF reports that the 40p/25p rates were introduced in 2002).

Back then, fuel was at 75ppl...

The Shell garages I went past wanted 130.9p per Diesel litre and it's only going up.

edit: I might get some wvo, a 1 micron filter, filter it down and dump it in the tank with a further inline filter and start experimenting with the ratios!

I've started to hyper mile... I know it's boring and dull, but I need to try and break even on my mileage expenses. It's painful! I now sit at 65mph with CC on, and just let the high 40s/50 mpg do their thing. It's dull, and although I get paid mileage, it's still painful watching that money burn away! :( I've only got a 45L tank... I'm currently squeezing out nearly 450 miles out of it (including London driving). I need to try and get it up to 500! That's my goal - I think when it starts hitting higher mileage it'll start being more economical (only done 15k miles).

I heard the government were talking about doing a fuel duty tracker so as to not let the fuel prices increase too much. i.e. if the price of oil goes up the duty drops and vice versa. I heard it on the radio but no idea if it's an actual possibility or not.

The worry with this now is It's too late, the base price will be set at current prices so if this is another price bubble like 08 if it ever went down fuel would be fixed at where it is now!

I think I'll be using my motorbike to commute shortly. Can go the same distance on a tank as my Focus, but the bike's tank is much smaller. 90mpg here we come :)

Anyone noticed the average speed on motorways is slowing? Around the west midlands there seems to be a lot more inside laners sitting at 65 - 70. Maybe it is just me. Petrol prices could be slowing people into economy modes

I always drive at them speeds, never in a rush...
