Fuel up/down again

Anyone noticed the average speed on motorways is slowing? Around the west midlands there seems to be a lot more inside laners sitting at 65 - 70. Maybe it is just me. Petrol prices could be slowing people into economy modes

Yup, but I notice they still sit in the middle or overtaking lane.

The worry with this now is It's too late, the base price will be set at current prices so if this is another price bubble like 08 if it ever went down fuel would be fixed at where it is now!

I fear you're probably right :(

I think we just have to accept that we will never get back to the 60-70p a litre level. I'd be happy for it to go back to 100p a litre to be frank!

I'm one of those now - recent convert. I used to sit in the outside lane at 85+, now I'm hypermileing and just cruising slowly. :(

I am starting to think like you freefaller. In fact I am starting to dislike owning a performance car!

It just seems once you have too much of something it takes the fun out of driving. A new 330D M Sport would be perfect for me right now. Maybe I am getting old at the grand age of 26.

I've joined that club as well.

I used to chuck the cruise on at an indicated 80 to 85.

Now I set it to around 70 which is a shade under 2000rpm in 6th and trying to push the MPG up to 50 instead of the low 40s.

a new 330d Msport is more of a performance car than a clio 172 in running cost aspects, much more expensive tyres etc as well as being a fair bit quicker.....doesnt make sense that :p

I have an r26 running at circa 280 hp and a 172 cup ;) the r26 is just a bit much, need some comfort these days! I can use my hornet 600 for fun

Article in todays times stating that there is a £1bn 'War Chest' somehow available to George Osbourne for his budget in the spring and reducing fuel duty is being considered.

Indeed. People think fuel is the only thing about running a car, in reality it's quite a way down the list.

A 330d M Sport Coupe with the right options costs £1100 to change all 4 tyres on!

I've been trying to drive a little more economical but the fact my car just about warms up by the time I get to work probably doesn't help.

I guess less people in cars means more people on bikes so it's good for my line of work:).

I think my bike will be getting used at least twice a week to get to work come the end of this month.

19 inch wheels would be silly ;) I wouldn't
be making the move to save money, i want refinement, I thought that was made clear.

they cant seriously allow it to climb much higher, the economy is shrinking another period of shrinking will mean recession, fuel dictates the cost of so much, the public wont stand for it and it wont be along until it reaches breaking point for those close to the breadline

126.9 at the Shell filling station at Crystal Palace. 134.9 for those of us who have cars that dislike peasant fuel.

What did make me smile was on the (long) way home I came across an independent filling station with a big 'Cut price fuel available today' billboard outside. The price? 128.9 a litre for U/L. And people were still buying!

If your in the military or aircraft industry and want to save a few quid on fuel my old 306 D turbo with the mechanical fuel pump ran lovely on waste avtur. Used to top half and half with diesel and all was good. Just don't try it with a common rail engine as things will go bad quickly....

;)
