Fuel up/down again

Out of interest, how does the USA manage without such high fuel taxes? Wiki says its 18.4 cents per gallon. I know they don't have the NHS to fund, but I'm pretty confident the NHS isn't the only thing our fuel tax covers.

I understand we're very different countries in the manner our public funding works, welfare etc. Anyone know of a nice graph/website showing equivalent %GDP spending in each major area like health/welfare/military/education etc.?

USA has more debt then us and they pay less for it as its on short term finance where as our average term is 13 years apparently.

Its very likely they will have to raise taxes at some point in some way or else be very clever.
Biggest producer of oil to increase the most in the last 12 months? USA!, so who knows, I think we import more per capita also and our uk production is still declining

how does the USA manage without such high fuel taxes
usa deficit in taxes is 1.5 trillion this year, they dont manage is the quick answer

The USA benefits from being the worlds reserve currency too. All oil (petrol) is bought in Dollars.. even if its between 2 completely un-related countries.

Also note, the USA has bigger debt problems than us..

Wow just filled up the Volvo £85 and it wasn't even empty still showed 150 miles left, I feel sorry for anyone who does a tank a week and has to pay for it themselves, luckily my industry pay for my car and my fuel so I'm OK.

Gonna have to wind it in to the missus though.

I filled up at 128.9 last night here, regular Shell.

All at a time where I'm changing jobs and will need the car for commuting. I guess the only saving grace is that I chose the job that was 6 miles from my house, instead of the other job offer that was 22 miles away.

If anyone lives near a petrol station and has access to a webcam - please provide a suitable link :D

Good idea, it would save the thread continuing to degenerate into a largely pointless collection of posts where people tell everyone else how much petrol is. We know - this thread was for discussion regarding future prices and debate around that..
