Fuel up/down again

Dropped £80 into the S3 at the weekend! the fuel computer amusingly claims 450 miles till empty on a new tank when I've not seen more than 350...

Stuck £75 in the 525D yesterday, took me upto just over 3/4 a tank from almost empty, and a range of around 430 miles mixed driving.

Ill get a good idea of it's motorway economy next week as i drive Teesside > Daventry > Manchester > Teesside.

750 miles from the tank is optimistic - I had just finished my mainly M25 60 mile journey home, refilled, and saw that as I drove down the road from the garage. It actually went up to 753 briefly! Based on typical fuel consumption I can get ~550-650 miles between refills (38-45 MPG). To get 750 to a tank it'd need to be a long, steady drive and 49 MPG!

But yes, either way, it's quite impressive from a 1735 Kg 350 HP automatic!

I thought my Octavia VRS had a good BHP to MPG ratio, but the figures for the 535D are epic. That's a whole lot of power for the economy on offer! And it must be really nice not having to frequent to petrol station too often with such a good range.

If I ever went over to the diesel side I would love for it to be an engine like that.

I'm getting about 350 miles maximum on £80 of v-power.

It is pretty good, though that power figure is mapped. The 535d occupies what is a bit of a sweet spot on the logarithmic curve between power and economy. To get much more power you start significantly losing economy, but to gain much more economy you start significantly losing power.

Thread needs a title change, prices have been going down for a couple of weeks!

However on the news today the independents are now complaining to the competitions commission about price fixing at supermarkets and/or selling below retail :(
