Leadtek 6800gt that has just died on me, just waiting for my refund and then was gonna get one of these babies.

I had an MSI 6800 GT - sold. Then went to XFX Extreme 7800 GS - sold. Now am on this baby. The long and short..? You'll prob get 15 -20% increase in performance. Don't expect miracles though. The 6800 Gt's are excellent cards, already. I think if we want huge jumps in performance we have to go PCIe - or SLi !!!!

wildweb,

is it really only 15-20% increase? I think I'll just stick with another 6800 gt its much cheaper.

Why was everyone raving about these cards in the first place, seems a waste of money for such a small performance boost.

Cheers

:)

I found it quite small really... for all the hassle of selling and buying... But all these things are subjective and obviously, this is just my opinion...
But the new Gainward card is amazingly quiet... (the other reaon for me getting it). I can't tell if my PC is on except for the little blue LED light... so thats pretty quiet. Like it used to be...

Also, excpt for ebay, you wont find another 16 pipe 6800 GT... you'll have to downscale to a 12 pipe GS - or go for the new 7800 GS (16 pipes)... inwhich case, consider the new gainward card which has 20 pipes... decisions decisions...

glad to hear your happy Vita :)

i just thought that it would be a significant difference from a 6800gt, what with the Inquirer raving about it and the long thread on here.

wildweb,

i've already sourced a 6800gt, even tho there are not many left. Its a lot cheaper than the gainward so I think I'll go with that.

Thanks for all the info.

Hmm I wouldn't say I got it sorted. Played nfsmw on stock clocks, driving game froze with abit of Artifacts, started again, then I exited out, about to press Quit exit to windows, a lot of artifacts on screen then BOOM! Computer turns off.

Something seriously wrong here....

Nah, I dunno wtf it is. Leaving it at stock for the mo. Got a good score on stock, I'll see if I overclock to 450/1350 and run 3DMARK05 what happens. If I don't artifact in that, then I know it's just the game. Didn't Artifact in BF2 either.

Would the Resoloution cause Artifact's?

BF2 is 1024x768
NFS:MW is at 1280x1024 60Hz Refresh rate.

Hey mate. For my money, its the PSU not giving enough juice. Or overheating. I bought my Zalman PSU from QuietPC... and that was after 5 different PSU's that they (very kindly) sent me, to try. My system was overheating and my PSU just shutdown for a sec, restarting the whole system. I'd be in the middle of C&C Generals, and 'Boom' (as you say) I was looking at..... blackness.... Daaaaaarrrgh! It may be an overheating problem due to over-all demand on the system. If you had no probs before the new card, it's probably that thats tipped it over the edge. What do you think?

Try running with case open..... (?)

Case is running open, think it is PSU overheating, I installed Patch 1.3 for NFSMW and no artifacts. So guess that's right. I'll slap a fan next to it and see how it goes.

Thanks for that advice mate.

EDIT: Yup defnatley right there, PSU issue. Overheating. But got a big Jocker FAN next to it, so it's cooled down quite abit.

Glad to hear we've nailed it. What the heck is a Jocker? Like a ceiling fan you get in Spain when on holiday?....only held vertically, directed at the PSU ?.... or something smaller? ;)

Lol Jocker as in HUGE JUGGERNAUT STYL-EEEE. lol. But the problem presists, my PSU is just really overheating and not liking this Gainward, at one point I thought I'd killed it, but that was the other PSU which was powering it seperatley. Man, this card has given me quite a trouble. Anyway's it's out of my machine and in the BOX, until my new PSU arrives.

But don't let this put you off guys. I clocked it @ 450/1300 and it gave 7250points in 3dmark05.

New PSU...

The PSU's not up to the task then... I've had no probs with my silent Zalman 400W. Played 2 hours of FEAR last night - o/clocked to 460 and 1300. 1280 x 960 res with max details, and 2x AA 8x AF. Pretty smooth throughout. Core of the new card went up to 56 deg C, max. System stayed near-silent throughout. But there again, I do have a separate Antex 120mm fan gently cooling the PSU. ;) My case in an Antec P180. Check my sig.... if you're interested..
