Gainward bring you a 512MB 7800 GT for AGP!!!!

Regarding the size of the cards, I too have a leadtek 6800 with the big copper cooler. The cards seem almost identical in length, and if you're tight in space with the 6800 like I was the power connecter doesn't stick out the back as far, giving you a few extra precious millimeters.

The cooler does extend down into the slot below more than the leadtek but it doesn't extend above the card at all the way the leadteks did.

Well, after spending the best part of 5 hours trying to get my PC stable after installing this card...

...turns out not only was my 6800GT fried, so was my Tagan 480W PSU!

Luckily I have an Antec Smartpower 2.0 400W kicking about that came with my case - all up and running...

AWESOME gfx card - I am definitely seeing an improvement in everything I've tried so far. Oblivion finally running nice and smooth with all FX on at 1680x1050! Crazy... and they said AGP was dead :D

Now, should I overclock it...

Hi Mrk,

I think for the most part you will be fine. However, I have one of these 7800Gs (GT -AGP) Gainwards, and when I run GRAW, it's fine but then slows right down, on reboot, I get an error saying there is not enough power to the Nvidia card - and it's being taken down in performance to increase stability. I think these cards *really* need dual 12v rails to run optimally as they are really PCi E cards in disguise. I'm currently using a Zalman 400W PSU - and I'll be upgrading to the dual 12v rail 460W very soon. So, yeag it'll work most part, but with more next gen content and these 'post processing effects' - you'd be better off with a dual 12V rail PSU.

Cheers.

Thanks guys! I've added a Hiper Type-R 580watt modular PSU to my shopping bag now :) I built my mates SLI rig with 7800GT using one of those psus and absolutely love the PSU so will be happy once the 7800GS arrives!

P.S. It's £246 now inc free del! looks like it's dropping by £10 each week! this time last week it was £257!

Oh yeah, £10 off! Every little bit helps :)

p.s. thanks to the guys + gals at OcUK who delivered so quickly yet again - top service.

I'm having the exact same problem mate, see here & I've just bought a 530w Tagan dual rail & it still does it

just to confirm some answers -

Yes it is the same size as the Leadtek 6800GT 256mb A400
Yes it is very quiet - can't hear it at all!

Mine is a 'non plus' version exactly the same as wildweb_uk's it seems & with the exact same problem.

Could someone with one of these who is having no problems post their bios version please? Mine is 5.70.02.13.GP.

That's a good suggestion, I'll give it a try later today and see what happens.

Could you possibly let me know what you score if you clock your CPU to 3.4ghz and leave the 7800+gs on it's defaults, would give a more clear indication of how your card is performing relative to mine. Don't think my poor old Gallatin will stretch to 3.8! Thanks ;) .

Hi balth dire.

Been working away this week and so only just got the benches done you asked about so….

With the CPU at stock (P4D 940) 3.2Ghz @ 200FSB

7800GS+ (stock 450/1250)

3D Mark 05 – 7615

7800GS+ (OC 554/1450)

3D Mark 05 – 8134

Then with the CPU O/C 3.8Ghz @ 238FSB

7800GS+ (stock 450/1250)

3D Mark 05 – 7889

7800GS+ (OC 554/1450)

3D Mark 05 – 9132

So only 250 points difference between stock 7800GS+ when at stock CPU clock.

O/C the 7800GS+ at CPU stock gains is 700 points.

But…. Once you O/C the CPU and so up the FSB and up the bandwidth with the O/C 7800GS+ I gain an extra 1500 points over stock CPU and GFX card ;)

Just seen a post on another forum that with the cooler removed it can be seen that the 7800GS+ has got Samsung 1.2ns memory and so a potential 1600mhz mem O/C… ;)

Here's what happens:

The system will run fine for 1/2hr or so then during games it will slow down considerably - @50 frames down to 5. When I reboot I get the sentinel warning error about not enough power etc. The voltage doesn't drop & the temp hardly raises, according to mbm.
The exacy same system had no problem at all a week ago with a 6800gs in.

Here's what I've tried:

2 PSUs, 1 brand new 530w Tagan with dual rail, separate connector for the card.
The minimum amount of other items connected to the psu.
Different connectors, a dedicated one & via an adapter.
At least 5 drivers.
All run at stock speeds.
Run with side panels off case to aid cooling.

Nothing helps:(
wildweb_uk is having the exact same problem, so there's obviously something up with the cards I reckon, that's why I'd like to see if there are any bios revisions out.

Thats quick once you start to open it up. In fact that is more or less as quick as the 7800 GTX 512MB cards that were like £500+VAT for PCI-Express when they came out......

I've ordered the 7800 GS BLISS...

What's the deal with the power? From my understanding it's 2x molex connectors. Why 2x molex? This should be from different rails? Otherwise whats the point in plugging in 2x molex fromt he same rail?

It's simply because the PCI-E power connector has 2 12V rails and each molex connector can only supply one 12V rail

You can plug in two molex connectors from the same rail, it'll just increase the load on that rail accordingly (it's still getting two 12V rails to the card). I would connect it to two seperate rails if you can though to help balance the load
