Game Activation Uproar

Reading the steam fourms it appears that version also has some Securom issues with it. The retail one only allows 2 activations, whereas the steam version only allows 2 activations on different hardware.
2x epic fails for 2K Games if all this is true. :(

WHy did they not say this before people went and bought this,

Now that ppl have already bought it there is no way to protest by not buying it either,

What a farce as I have mentioned previously on many occassions with the whole release.

How much more can they possibly screw this up I dont know.

just out of curiosity

Doesn't this infringe on statuatory rights?
After all if you pay for it, its yours is it not?

In addition i dont remember accepting anything of the kind when i pre-ordered

"hey guys,

first, let me say this. you DO NOT NEED TO USE THE INTERNET EVERY TIME YOU PLAY THIS GAME. it is only the first time.

second, you can uninstall and reinstall this game, and if, by chance, you have 2 computers you want to simultaneously play this game on, you also can do that.

if by some chance you are reinstalling this game without uninstalling it first, a lot, there is a chance you may have to call securom and get a key, or deactivate some older installations.

but if you upgrade your hardware next week, you'll still be able to play the game. if you revamp your system and need to reinstall bioshock, just uninstall it before you go through the overhaul, and then do your reinstall.

calling it "hardware fingerprinting" is a bit alarmist. we do not transmit any of your data to any companies.

really, the only people who will be concerned about any of these security measures are those who are rapidly putting bioshock on many pcs... if you use the game as you normally do, you won't notice this at all."

well i was planning on installing it on Win xp and Vista to see the difference,
so i would be out of activations already

possibly, steam version allows only 2 different hardware configs IIRC./

All info is sketchy so only knee - jerk responses in here please. USeful questions cannot be answered :P

So by uninstalling it appears that you deactivate that installation and you would be free to reactivate again, dont see a problem with that.

The idiot on the steam forum is trying to install 1 copy on 3 pcs, now i dont see why a person would want to do this, what about save game progress etc. you would be playing the same part 3 times, 1 copy on 3 pc deserves to be flagged up IMO, could be him and 2 mates PCs

I wonder does the Uninstaller go online and deactivate with SecuRom?

Steam will solve this problem for me, but I worry about future titles. I hope this doesn't become more common.

Steam has the two install limit too. Someone already has had the problem trying to install on his three computers. He got it installed on his two main computers but then wasn't allowed to put it on his laptop too even though all three computers used his same Steam account. Ridiculous.

I format my computer quite a lot due to upgrades or motherboard problems lately. If I have to install it three times then nothing will stop me. I won't stop pestering their support lines until I get my activation. If needed I would take the matter to the ombudsman here.
