To those saying FO4 - can I ask why? What does it do better than Witcher 3? Or is it simply you didn't play Witcher 3? :P

I haven't played Witcher 3 mainly because I didn't like Witcher 2. I love the setting in Fallout 4; it may not be to everyone's taste or the most technically capable game but it just presses the right buttons and is one of the only games this year I've actually had fun with.

To those saying FO4 - can I ask why?

Because I enjoyed it more than any other game I've played this year. :p :D

To be fair, I haven't played W3 yet, but I probably will pick it up once it's much cheaper. I'm just not that into sword / sorcery rpgs. I like the idea of them very, very much (a former table top D&D / AD&D gamer here / game books, etc), but for some reason I find it quite difficult to stick with them for the entire campaign. There are a few exceptions, though, such as Diablo 1 & ..... Morrowind : one of my favourite games of all time! Thoroughly enjoyed that. I guess it helps if I have the first person perspective in a game.

Just looked at my Steam. Exactly the same play time in Witcher 3 as Fallout 4 - 71 hours. Didn't expect that. That's for a *mostly* complete run in each, I know there were a few quests not done.
I'm waiting for all the DLC to come out for Witcher 3 before re-playing. I don't expect I'll play Fallout 4 again (which again says something about the quality difference imho)

I think Witcher 3 is a fantastic game

but I find the combat a bit tedious and slow feeling - and overall whilst I like the "world" etc I just don't find Witcher 3 as fun as Fallout 4

the combat on Fallout 4 is far more satisfying too - I could quite happily do some "clears" over and over again just trying different techniques

Jeez, Witcher 3 fanboys are getting really annoying sometimes:rolleyes:

Everybody has an opinion and Witcher 3 has a fair share of quite serious flaws. It sucks as an RPG game, it's really unbalanced and side quests are better than the main story. The combat/movement is quirky and you can't enjoy everything properly because of terrible levelling issues. The world is split into hubs, has really lame boundaries and some graphical elements look plain bad.

And there's actually more.

Don't see a reason to get your knickers in a twist over someone having a different view on the matter. The game isn't as perfect as you'd like to believe.

MGS:V

Simply because its amazing to look at and good to play. Fallout seems to have fallen a little flat for me and the graphics are pathetic IMO. Dirt:Rally is a personal contender but outside of Forza they're not popular. It's another year where the smaller games have been more interesting for me.

Really, seems to be more people needlessly ****ging it off than defending it, and it was kick-started by post number 19....

Can't we just all say what we enjoyed without needlessly having a go at other games.

Anyway for me Witcher 3 without a doubt, nothing even close. Can't remember a year where I could pick a winner so easily.

For me it'd have to be W3, it just feels and looks much better than FO4. Both good games though and I don't begrudge FO4 any awards it wins, appreciate the effort that went in to creating it and who are we to **** it off.

Also is Pillars of Eternity really that good??? Going to take the Royal Edition for a tenner on a key website and give it a blast this week.

Nothing really stands out head and shoulders over the rest for me this year. Every game had a disappointing aspect.

My GOTY could have easily been Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom pain had it not been for the relatively poor story and the fact it was episodic.

Then you have Fallout 4, a good game, but ultimately a letdown vs Fallout 3.

Witcher 3 was fun but not as good as people bang on about it.

Funny thing is, the game that stands out the most for me was not even a PC game, which is usually never the case. The Last of Us Remastered on the PS4 for me was better than all of the above.

The Witcher 3 by a country mile for me.....only game in god knows how many years where I've actually bought the DLC and cant wait for the next one.

Been thinking of Ori.... might get that this year, after I've completed Strider(The new one!)
Yes, Ori in the Blind Forest is magnificent. Honestly, in a lesser year, it would probably be in closer contention for a #1 spot on quite a few people's lists.

People really dont need to justify to you why they enjoyed it more. Asking this question comes with the annoying implication that they are incorrect or mistaken in their preference.

I've really enjoyed that game, but I just felt the level of difficulty and complexity of the puzzles as the game went on really took the shine off it. It just gets annoying and frustrating.

Then again, that's probably more to do with my patience than the game to be fair. :D
