Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon

Enjoyed it! Got to laugh at the 'it's boring' crew. You may well be right in the end, time will tell, but literally every series of GoT would get the exact same criticism at the start and then when they get the pay off around episode 9 it's the best thing ever. Then the next season doesn't start with fireworks, 'it's boring' all over again. Careful what you wish for, the last season of GoT decided to just move from set piece to set piece and that was lambasted.
Not true at all. I was hooked by the first episode of GOT. I'm yet to watch this so I will reserve my judgement. All indications are it will be bad. Maybe not series 8 GOT bad but probably not worth the effort of watching.

Hey, I'm like you - I was hooked from the start. But if you mean to say people weren't complaining about GoT series being boring to start with only to be raving about them by the end and then rinse repeat you'd be dead wrong! Probably not so much in the first season since it was new and the real show piece spectacle episodes didn't really start until season 2.
Not sure what 'indications' point to this being bad though? Good cast, high budget and a story that I thought was great when they did those narrated history of westeros shorts for the blu-rays years ago.

One question I have for this show though, is it a limited one season show or will there be 2/3?

Rubbish people were hooked on GOT from the start.

The casting in this is crap, where the screen presence ?

Watched it at lunchtime. WFH on a Monday is going to pay off here :p

I enjoyed it, good start. People need as bit of patience. You don't get so invested into a 10 episode series by being pummelled with action scenes and boobs for 1hr in the first episode.

Sigh, where did I say they were not? Didn't stop people complaining, including on this forum, about slow episodes early in the season every. single. season. only for it to be lavished with praise when the pay-off for those 'slow' episodes was revealed.

so why so much crappy jousting scenes then..... felt like I'd seen it all before about 50 times in other tv shows and movies

One of the things I was thinking when watching it - only a small number of the cast had any real screen presence and most of those I don't get the feeling have long to live.

The difference between ep 1 of got and ep 1 of this was the ending, both had character set up but hod's just doesn't go anywhere, nothing happens. If you were on the fence watching GoT you had a hook to make you watch the 2nd episode. There's nothing of the sort in ep1 of HoD. That's the difference.

It's a weird one.
It feels like they have a what was good about GoT checklist and just gone down it.
Shock violence overuse, but that's probably just a first episode "treat"
Dr Who was good, but many others feel bland....?
It'll be fine... Just an endless checklist of rememberberries and semi dubious CGI, it looked very CGI on a 4k 65 inch oled tv.

Paddy Considine was one of the few who really had much screen presence and I don't get the feeling he's going to be lasting long, Matt Smith was a bit hit and miss for me, some scenes brilliant but others felt like he was still finding his feet.

At least as far as characters the show will likely revolve around the rest were pretty forgettable unfortunately unlike GoT which introduced a veritable menagerie of notable characters in the first episode.

EDIT: Though I rewatched the first episode of GoT and it is kind of laughable and quaint now compared to how I remember it, but still sets the world and people up well.

I got a more lord of the rings vibe from Paddy. :p
The whole targyren family give of High elf vibes to me. I hope they go into more history other than a few monologues here and there.

Still probably a better LOTR than the Amazon offering :s
