Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon

I'm not going to retread this conversation for the hundredth time. But I will point out that without David Benioff and D. B. Weiss there would have been no Game of Thrones and all those seasons that you loved also happened because of them. Referring to the people who created that TV phenomenon as "Dumb & Dumber" is a special kind of stupid.
I agree, let's not drag this off topic, it's just pretty clear the point the quality of GOT dropped and it's when they weren't having their hand held by GRRM - yes, they got a fantastic series made - my point was simply if the earlier seasons were as poor as the later ones, there would be no later seasons. EDIT: Not worth it.

Not as disappointed as I was expecting, quite enjoyed the first episode. I think Matt Smith is just mis-cast for the part of Prince Daemon. He should be full of menace and have a real screen presence but that just didn't come over well. Maybe he will go the way of Ned Stark and get the chop early on? Don't get all the "CGI" is rubbish comments. Maybe I'm old enough to remember "Dr Who" monsters being covered in bubble wrap and egg cartons and allowing my imagination to fill the gaps. You can't even see the string holding the dragons up!!

People are criticising the CGI? What?

I don't understand all the Matt Smith criticism, it took me a few minutes to get over the "look, it's Doctor Who!" reaction but after that I thought he was excellent in the role. All the main cast so far have impressed, tbh.

I’m out, GOT killed any future prequels/sequels for me.

Have to say no excitement for this at all.

Ill wait until its completely finished and been reviewed. No way I'm investing that time and excitement to it all end like the end of season 8.

Wonder how many blu Ray sales etc they lost due to that.

He finally has a role to match his eyebrows as well.

Same here. My instant thought was ‘immersion ruined, it’s Matt Smith’, but my goodness that was soon forgotten, he plays the character so well. All the cast have been excellent so far.

loved it yeah ending could have been better but the journey to get to that point was amazing experience one of the all time greats for me so no I wouldnt say it was a waste

lol don't be such a drama queen. Let's say you hated all of season 8, you'd still have around 140hrs of pure enjoyment for season 1-7. That's well worth it.

I liked the way they made him hang out of the back of some lovely lady just to completely dismiss the Doctor Who stuff. I mean, I dont know I've never watched Doctor Who but I'm assuming that doesnt happen :p

Ah I hate when shows have a bad ending.
Next is an open ending/cancelled

A well rounded ending seems to be the hardest to nail in TV series.

He is so type cast with the Doctor I think that is the problem, he has a very distinctive face and no matter what the get up he always looks like the Doctor in disguise.
H e is a good actor, I just keep expecting him to get out the sonic screwdriver

The CGI wasn't great in places but I think that there are honestly very few shows that have a high requirement from their CGI and actually nail it. Knocking out a 1 hour episode out of potentially hundreds is very different to a 2 hour film. And lets be honest, compared to a lot of AAA hollywood blockbusters, the CGI was amazing. That being said, a 5 year old with a 10 year old copy of final cut could probably outdo some of the trash we have seen from the likes of WW2.

First episode was really good in my opinion. Casting is on point apart from perhaps Matt Smith but thats because theres something I just can't put my finger on. I think he is portraying what he is trying to really well but the hair along with his slightly hammy acting a times was a little off perhaps.

Stand out was Milly Alcock. They've found a top talent there. Someone who you feel is genuinely a good actor rather than someone who just happens to fit the role they want. I always got the impression with Amelia Clarke that she was just the right actor for the portrayal of Danarys but ultimately wasn't a good actress. Same with Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner.

I'm not sure he is a that good an actor tbh, yes, his face is very distinctive, but plenty of other actors have played the DR and are totally convincing in other roles. He just doesnt have the ability to seperate himself, to be fair to him, it is very tough with that face. In this show he just doesn't look like he belongs there.

Disagree. I think you're blinded by DW. I've never watched DW but I have watched him as Prince Phillip in The Crown (great performance) and in Last Night in Soho where he was also excellent. The latter is probably a good prelude to his more sinister ways for what I'm assuming is coming from him in HOTD.

At the moment, it's probably the hair. Give it another episode or two and I'm sure you'll be convinced.
