Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon

Where's the intro?!! GoT used to give me goose bumps when the theme tune started and the camera panned over the map, HoD hardly had anything. Whilst I didn't hate the opening episode and it's was great to be back in Westeros I felt a lot of the characters felt bland and as others have said they lacked gravitas, even Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen didn't feel that menacing.

I like it, I like the tension, I like a new story.

The intro music came in the end credits, with a slight twist (added choir), it was then when i noticed....that's the first time I heard this tune!!! and like you, I miss it but it did give me goosebumps as well.

Yes the remix of the original tune with the choir was nice, but I like to see an elaborate opening sequence. Early days for the story, it will be interesting to see how the conflict progresses with Targaryen vs Targaryen or if this is a lie and another faction is introduced.

There will be one next episode I think. GoT intro and theme iirc was an absolute last minute rush out the door job! I guess for this new series they wanted a bit of exposition to set the scene and time period.

Enjoyed it, didn't have high hopes but it was a good watch (CGI was awful in places though!)

@Raymond Lin there was a little bit of the original GoT theme near the start too, played on strings and was very short though.

Pleasantly surprised, not amazing but a good start.

Matt Smith though, totally unconvincing in everything outside of Dr Who, I just don't think he's much of an actor and is mis-cast here, the awful wig isn't helping much either.

Was quite enjoyable - agree Matt Smith is pretty awful.

Obviously very faithful to GOT in look and feel - not sure if that is a good thing or not really as it feels a bit like more of the same.

I don't think I'll bother then. Way too many seasons, so little time.
It’s definitely worth watching. The first six seasons are a build up of tension and when the show started to bring it to an end game the pacing increased dramatically. There were a few silly moments but it never ruined the show for me and it felt right to bring it to an end one way or another - I was ready for an ‘ending’ and enjoyed it.

Watched the first of the new series today - really enjoyed it :)

Do you need to watch GoT to watch this? I know it's a prequel so may give it a go.

So far: no. It's a stand alone story. Knowing the background from GoT probably helps get a bit more enjoyment from some parts of the show but that's all.

Not that watching Game of Thrones is a bad thing, it's still great TV - yes, even including the last couple of seasons. Much of it is the best TV of recent times, and whilst it does fall off towards the end it's still pretty good. If we'd got those last few seasons without the first few people would have talked about how great they are, it's just they aren't at the amazingly high standard of the earlier stuff.

You could also argue if the writing was as poor in the first few seasons as the last 2 or 3, folks would never have liked it so much and would have been cancelled way before the last few seasons.

You can pretty much draw a line under the point the writing got lazy, 'in-universe' logic went out the window, characters starting acting out of character - yeah, it's the point Dumb & Dumber weren't following the books anymore and making up their own path to the ending.

I'm not going to retread this conversation for the hundredth time. But I will point out that without David Benioff and D. B. Weiss there would have been no Game of Thrones and all those seasons that you loved also happened because of them. Referring to the people who created that TV phenomenon as "Dumb & Dumber" is a special kind of stupid.
