Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon

I really don't understand why they didn't do the Doom of Valyria...

I think GRRM doesn't want to ever explain what actually happened there.

I'm guessing the immense time skips between episodes is a feature? Do they want to go all the way to the mad king?

My impression is that we're still essentially watching a prologue. We're seeing the pieces set up for the succession criss when the current king dies. I think once we get to that point time will flow more like it did in GoT.

This is the last 'prequel' episode after watching the teaser for episode 6, it's jumping another 10 years and we've got the cast change to the original actors. The size of some of the dragons in the teaser

Another GOT wedding that sticks to tradition of not being an enjoyable event. After the Queen saves Criston I wonder if he'll now be working for her and almost being a spy for her.

It's a shame Daemon's wife only had 2 minutes of screentime as she was great in the role.

Lol
What on earth happened at the end of episode 5. Turned into a Shakespeare tradergy of epic silly predicable proportions...
Why is it when ever they start speaking high valyerian? The girl turns into a complete pyscho ****...lol
Speak about ser ****struck, what a complete pyscho idiot.

Thought that episode was pretty stupid/rubbish.

Getting a bit bored already...

This one was lazy writing, don’t really care for all the marriage, duty and love triangle drama in a show like this. I watch K-Drama for that kind of stuff. Strong opening few episodes but it’s slipping…

I liked the episode, I enjoy it when people are scheming and using leverage to get what they want.

If we are going to jump 10 years into the future for the next episode that might kill the series for me. Can't see how you can get good character development if you are going to jump that far through someone's life.

I enjoyed it. Knew the new hand was up to no good and has finally tipped his hand.

edit: Also, Hightower's words to his daughter were absolutely spot on. Either be ready to ensure your son takes the thrown or be absolutely damn sure you can 100% trust the princess or you and your family will all be killed.

I don't truly understand why Cole suddenly snapped like that? Seemed wildly out of character and came out of nowhere.

Also Matt Smith's portrayal of Daemon is getting a bit tired. Not sure whether it is his fault, or the direction, but to make a character sinister and interesting it isnt as easy as just telling him to sit/stand everywhere quietly with an irritating smirk on their face.

Really enjoying this so far, it's not as good as some of the earlier seasons of Game of Thrones but it's pretty damn good.. Probably also the case that the quality of other shows airing right now is making this look a lot better than it really is.

RoP must have you in a coma then.

:D

I'm still not convinced by that one either.

It has however made me roll my eyes a lot less than House of the Dragon.

I HATE lazy contrived writing whereby characters do pants on head retarded things/completely out of character things, just to get the plot to where it needs to be. It just stinks of poor writing skills and House of the Dragon has had two big woopsies in that respect so far.

It is also extremely serious, which is fine if that is what they are going for, but i was expecting a bit more fun/a few more witty characters thrown in now and then, like in Game of Thrones.

For sure - he started excellently but now he's just not getting any real screentime or dialogue. He's just..there, looking surly.

Yeh, i think it is more a direction thing. As you say he isn't getting any interesting dialogue lately.

I'm hoping it's more that there's a lull in his story at the moment. It's going to get better when his arc comes into play. I think for the most part he could not have been in the last episode at all and nothing would have been lessened, but I guess they want to keep him visible as he's going to become quite key.

Really enjoyed this ep. It’s all getting very tense now.

@Jono8 - I presume Cole did that because:

… it was a big ‘**** you’ to the Rhaenyra, who had basically rejected his marriage proposal, which he took great offence to earlier in the episode (when he stormed off on the ship).

If he couldn’t be happy, then he was going to cause as much grief to the others as possible. He basically ensured that Rhaenyra wasn’t going to get what she wanted out of the marriage - no relationship with Cole and a miserable husband.

Yeah, we had to re-watch that bit in case we missed something. Seemed a bit OTT - or maybe a bit too forced in order for his character to do something further down the line.

And we weren't quite sure why the queen was quite so arsey. Yes, her kids etc but at least give Rhaenyra a chance to be act kindly?
