Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon

I've just binged all current episodes, have to say it's not a patch on GoT. There seems to be a lack of sub plots, character depth/arc and I think the audience becomes removed from the storyline because of time gaps between episodes.

The only character with any depth seems to be Daemon and even he feels weak. Maybe this is purely going to be an introductory season, however it's needs some meat on the bones. The story feels like patchwork or papered over cracks. Bit of a let down so far I'd say.

I don't really like the pace of the episodes. Changing of actors removes the audience from being able to engage and love chapters, it makes you unable to have a favourite. Everyone was able to relate and have a fab in GoT.

Meh nothing happened in ten years.
Changing actors had to happen but it felt harsh after the previous 5 eps.

The king is the only likeable character and barely. Everyone else just seems to be hanging at each others throats waiting for a nod from a director
Why did they need to change Characters?
Milly Alcock is 22, they made her look 15. Surely, they can make a 22-year-old look a few years older.

Daemon and Christen haven't aged one bit, both look the same.

They made Paddy Considine look about 30 years older than he is, just find it odd they couldn't make the others look younger or older.

Nothing against the new actor's, they have been fine in this current episode, but they just feel like new characters,

New Rhaenyra actress isn't a patch on Milly Alcock - although it's only been a single episode so should maybe give her more of a chance. However Milly Alcock stole the show from her first scene - the older actress doesn't have any presence.

I think the character is in a weak / compromised position now. She’s literally in retreat. So she is not going to be as charismatic as before.

Let’s see how the next few episodes are.

Well I'm up to date now and really enjoying this. It's ticking along nicely the time transition was little clunky but by halfway through the episode it was forgotten. It does feel like quite a few threads exist now I'm hoping for good things from this over the next few years.

My sentiments exactly. It lacks the charm and wit Game of Thrones had, as well as the intricacies of the sub plots etc.

Yep, it was a very poor decision.

I could understand if it went for the character being like 12 to 50 maybe, but an actor that is 22, changing to an actor that is 30 is stupid.

Ser Laenor's new actor barely looked any older than the last one!

As you say, no attempt has been made age Daemon or Christen so the whole thing just looks weird on screen.

I can't fathom how people struggle to follow this.
It's written for the lowest common denominator.
Its fine to watch but it doesn't earn it's shock reveals or omg no wAaaY moments. Not like got did.

Struggling a bit with this, have been hoping for that ah you got me moment, when’s the next episode, but it hasn’t come.

Problem with this show over other shows is, well I speak for myself, is I had high expectations for it given how good the GoT was excluding the final few seasons. That’s the bar. I wasn’t invested in any of the characters by the time of the 5th episode (bar daemon) and now in the 6th pretty much everyone has changed actors!

Now I can sit down and enjoy 30mins of she hulk (lol) because I know it’s bit crap, it doesn’t take itself seriously, I don’t have high expectations and is 30mins an episode.

I agree with this. I think the new actress did a fine job. She's not that much older in years, but she's clearly been damaged by having to fulfil the role she never wanted ie "baby producing machine trapped in loveless arranged marriage" - it also didn't look like she's found any solace with various lovers either while her husband had clearly spent 10 years partying hard so to speak...

Right, so you judge how good a TV show is based on how long it goes on for? - weird metric but hey ho. And you CAN enjoy She-Hulk because you already know it's ****?

Did you enjoy the subverted expectations?

I ended up watched the show in two sittings. I enjoyed the second half more. Still seemed unnecessarily rushed. I am here to watch a show, not a brief synopsis of family history for the show.

A bit like fast food, you know it’s crap for you but can enjoy it now and again.

But no I don’t judge how good a show is based on length. It’s not a word I used, you did, I said enjoy. Enjoy and being good are not the same.

Loving this so far. Milly Alcock was fantastic. Everything about her looked regal. So disappointed they couldn’t keep using her but other than that it’s hitting the mark for me. The queen is getting on my nerves so the show is doing it’s normal job.

I don’t get that in the original series they acted like Targaryens regularly interbreed to keep the bloodline pure but the king seemed so outraged about the uncle and his daughter. That the people would be outraged. Why if it was accepted?

So, you "enjoy" probably the worst TV show that has aired for years because it's only 30 mins, but you're struggling with a vastly supperior show because it goes on for an hour...

Ok then.

I spent 20 minutes of that episode wondering if it was going to be a dream sequence. What a bizarre choice to change some of the lead actors.
