Garden room / posh shed /workshop build log

Just realised where the issue really manifests. I haven't even clad there

Decking will cover it in fullness of time. Get the issue now! Wonder if I will have the same challenge.

I'm guilty of checking your thread when looking at a few bits haha!

Looks like a few on fb group who've had the same issue. As you say the bits under decking doesn't matter. So for me the left window will be the only one impacted and it's the least "seen" one

What did you guys use to seal around window & door openings once you’d cut the building wrap? Flexwrap seems to be the thing but it’s so damn expensive!

I’ve run armoured cable under the deck/path/lawn now, just waiting for the spark to get back from holiday so he can do the first fix, then I can finish the internal insulation.

I've just used Plumbers Gold to seal it to the wood. It is fully breathable so any moisture will soon dry off.

Ive not really put anything on it, the expanding foam meets the window /over it.

I figured not much would get behind the composite cladding.

If its 20 years old it maybe PUR rather than PIR. PIR has better flame resistance and slightly lower smoke emissivity. Insulation value would be slightly lower, it degrades over time but to such a small extent you wouldnt really notice.

I'm thinking of using Knauf loft roll to insulate the walls, as the cavity is about 95mm so I can fill it with 100mm thick wool. Plus the rolls are perforated to cut to 380mm, which will tuck nicely into the 365mm cavities I have (studs on 16" centres).

Any reason why I shouldn't use loft roll though...?

I don't know if fluff stuff settles over time, I always feel like it will.

You might get slightly better sound blocking properties with acoustic battens e.g. RWA45 type stuff. Not sure if that matters to you based on garden location.

It took me a couple days to get this far with the cladding. The mitres are a bit of a pain and I should have made sure all the windows were same amount to the front edge of OSB. Also my chop saw was too small to cut it so I had to get creative and prop it to use it.

Went for ecoscape midnight which was a bit expensive at 1.8k.

Im hoping it will be easy ish now that the corner pieces are on!

PIR is a far better heat insulator than rock/glass wool, although as stated the wool will give much better sound absorbency.

I know. But it's also nearly £15 per sqm, whereas loft roll is about £3. I've got PIR in the roof & floor.

I'd guess with 100mm compressed slightly front to back and side to side it'd hold. I'm not that bothered about acoustics tbh as it's not like I'm going to be working in there or playing drums.

What downlights did you use in yours @dlockers ( for the exterior )

Im going to fit more cladding tommorow... Didn't get much done last weekend.
I wanted multicolour to keep the kids entertained but didn't want to pay Hue money. Ended up with GU10 Govee. They're on timer and work fine.

Interior I went Hue ambient so I can change the colour temp. Usually hate spotlights tbh
