Gary Lineker to leave BBC's Match of the Day

No-one is worth at 1.3 million salary a year at the BBC (funded by a forced tv tax) absolute joke. Plus given all expenses paid trip to the top tournaments in football for 5-10 minutes of filler per match. The BBC should be pushing new talent into these spaces and replacing them in a 3-4 year cycle for more fresh blood.

A few new details -

Gary Lineker will step down as host of Match Of The Day at the end of the season, the BBC has confirmed.

The 63-year-old will continue to host coverage of the FA Cup in 2025/26 and the World Cup in 2026, the broadcaster announced.

Interestingly:

Lineker will continue with the MOTD Top Ten podcast while his The Rest Is Football podcast, which features BBC pundits Alan Shearer and Micah Richards, will now be hosted on BBC Sounds.
Edit: It is currently available on podcast platforms such as Spotify and Apple, but this marks the first time it will also be made available on the BBC's own audio platform.

Is that what he's on? I agree absolute joke.

BBC going OTT with the "breaking news" articles and he's presenting until end of the season... And then the BBC will run another load of articles!

Gary became a better presenter with some practice, but how the heck is he the highest paid tv personality on the BBC?

MOTD doesn't need three multi-millionaire ex-football pros to show highlights of the day's Premiership league games, just like snooker on tv doesn't need two rich ex-(or even current) pros to talk between action while often another two commentate etc.

At least now with his podcast being on BBC sounds he won't be able to pad 75% of the podcast with adverts!!!

I like Lineker and I can't think of anyone else that would realistically do it better (I'm a big fan of Mark Chapman but I doubt he'd be looking to do it full time).

The BBC should just go the way of Have I Got News For You and have a rotation of presenters.

Never had any strong opinions on him other than “football man present football” but started noticing all the worst people in society hate him so presume he must be pretty sound.

Who the hell watches MOTD anyway ? Boomer TV at this point, everyone’s either watched the games live or seen the highlights long before it even airs.
True, usually nodding off by then..

Manage to watch the first few games then call it a night
