Gary Lineker to leave BBC's Match of the Day

Alex Scott I'm less keen on, not the best presenter or the clearest communicator. Kelly Somers would be better.

I think it seems more logical to have a male presenter as it's the men's football... I get the feeling they're keen to shoehorn a woman in there somehow. Fair enough if there was a standout female candidate, but I don't think there is. Kelly Cates for example on Sky is a great presenter.

Agreed, Kelly is very good on Sky. However, if it has to be a women (everything is these days), then I recon Gabby Logan would be the best bet? Just not Alex Scott.
 
I'll agree with the above about Kelly Cates, good presenter and has basically been around football and involved in football, her entire life.

If we are talking football knowledge, I'd take Sue Smith over Alex Scott but I guess Sue Smith doesnt have the aesthetical appeal of Alex Scott (and before anyone says anything I dont mean skin colour)

Lineker is also a good natural presenter, Scott is not, I find her presenting style very forced and put on.

It’s nothing to do with her being a woman, I’d be very happy to see Kelly Cates get the job, it’s just that I don’t think Scott suits it.

Indeed. People are allowed to have opinions that go beyond whether they just have the qualifications for it. If we just slotted people into these roles, we’d have Mark Lawrenson fronting it or Graeme Souness. Imagine.

I don’t mind Scott, but she’s just a bit of a middling presenter. She’s a bit dull. Kelly Somers, Gaby Logan etc are just more engaging.

Gary Lineker is certainly not a natural presenter! Did you see his early shows?! He’s very good now but that’s with experience…
 
Alex Scott is competent enough to do the job but her problem is that at that initial time a few years ago when all the football shows realised they should include women on pundit panels and so on, for whatever reason Alex Scott seemed to be the *only* one they had to plonk down on all these shows. She did absolutely every one of them on all channels, and this seemed to go on for months before they expanded their range of female pundits. And I don't know about anybody else, but for me I became absolutely sick of the sight of her at the time, and that has stuck with my perception, for better or worse, so I am automatically biased against her in particular.
