GE66 Raider

hmm "your computer doesnt meet the updated specifications"

Where did you get that message?

Just got mine delivered today and really liking it so far, has a really premium feel to it and it's benchmarking pretty good. Ran Timespy earlier and got 10,260 which is alright in my book. Can also confirm it was the 130w 3070.

When I put the headset on and connected to laptop, i seem to be having alsorts of issues with the quest tho, cant get it to play with pc correctly too

Finally have my refund and ready to order, looking at ram and wanted to go 32gb.
Any recommendations?, is the max 3200Mhz on all variants?
Going to order a 1tb WD blue or black as a second drive as well.

If you order the 10UG-003UK model then it comes with 32GB and a 1TB SSD already. Can also confirm it's the full fat 3070 as well, not the Max-Q. I've also added another 1TB ssd, just make sure to remove the screw that's under the factory seal sticker too. That confused me a bit at first!

Max ram speed is 3200Mhz.

Thanks for the info, being restricted to currys due to store credit in with my refund the model I'm getting is 10UG-075UK which must be the poverty spec but its a good price so don't mind doing a few upgrades. But confused with all types of M.2's will this one be OK?

Also grab 32gb corsair vengeance as well.

I'll keep an eye on that screw, does it come off and on easy enough? Also looked on YouTube did you push a safety pin through the hole to disconnect the battery or just crack it off

Yeah that drive will be fine, looks like a good deal!

The screws come off easily enough but I found the case was clipped on quite tight, so make sure you have a plastic guitar pick to hand or a credit card. Something to slide under the plastic case to help unhook the plastic clips. The first time I took the case off I actually snapped one of the numerous plastic clips as it was on so tight. Once you're in though upgrading is easy.

Oh and yes, I put a phone sim card removal tool into that hole for 30 seconds to disconnect the battery. Once you've finished though you'll only be able to get the laptop to turn back on again by having it connected to mains power.

This vid is for the last gen GE66 but I found it useful

Thanks again, that was the video I was watching when I saw about the battery, First time I've had to do anything like that before opening a laptop though, did you disconnect the battery cable also

In all honesty unless you really need 32gb I would see what its like with 16, the ssd looks fine, i put a 2tb WD blue in for storage, not the fastest in the world but still decent, I didnt have any issues with removing the panel just dont force anything. I also didnt bother disconnecting the battery

I did contemplate a 2tb and leave the ram as the games I play I don't think I'd be reaching 16gb at all
ACC
Cyberpunk
Forza
Death stranding
Dirt 2.0
Was mostly for future proofing so I don't have to go back inside again.

Quick tip, enable CPU overclocking in the BIOS advanced menu and use Throttlestop to downclock the turbo slightly so your CPU maxes out at around 3,800Mhz. It reduces temps by a good 15-20 degrees with no loss in performance during games. Doing this i get max performance in games with temps not getting higher than 75 degrees on both CPU/GPU.

To get into the advanced BIOS you go into the normal BIOS and press RIGHT CTRL + RIGHT SHIFT + LEFT ALT + F2 at the same time.

Ran a Timespy bench at stock recently for both GPU/CPU as well (without the CPU downclock) and got these results:

Overall - 10,378
GPU - 10,549
CPU - 9,507

thanks for the tip, i've got into the advanced bios but cant find where those options are?

Edit found it, although I’ve never used that software before where to start?

Following with interest.

Thats a fair difference in heat ill be doing that when it arrives thanks, (ordering tonight) :p although I'm not home till the 1st.
Been watching a lot of ram usage videos on YouTube and a lot of games look like they hit around 10gb so I don't see the need for the 32gb upgrade at the moment so I think I'll start looking for a 2tb m.2

Found this one quite interesting hardly much difference FPS wise

Your timespy is a few hundred more than mine was, but when I applied the above (If i did it correctly) it dropped my score by about 1000 overall

Ah, if you look again at my post you'll see that I said I didn't actually use the CPU downclock when running Timespy so I could get the highest possible scores :) I downclock the CPU a little only if I'm using the laptop usually, playing games, etc.

If it helps, here are my Throttlestop settings, I have three different profiles, one for Max performance, one for regular use, and another to keep temps as low as I can whilst still having the CPU run fast enough to not really see any impact. The main things I've changed are the Turbo Ratio Limits for the different profiles, and a -50mv undervolt across the board.

Here's a great guide for Throttlestop - https://www.ultrabookreview.com/31385-the-throttlestop-guide/

Here's an image of the Timespy scores:

Sure I could get higher if I overclocked the GPU but tbh i'm more than happy to keep the temps down a bit, the score below is plenty for me!

Here's a cropped screengrab I just took from Cyberpunk at mostly ultra settings, Ray Tracing at Ultra with DLSS set to balanced. You can see the temps for the GPU/CPU at the top left. See also how the CPU is pegged at 3,500Mhz to keep the temps down. I've found at that frequency, unless the game is super CPU intensive you won't see much effect at all on fps.

This was with the CPU set to my gaming and regular use profile show in my previous post and the extreme performance user profile for fan control in MSI Dragon Center.
