its a nice kit shame the snare had to be in green :( but still looks fab matey!

The thing is I originally asked for the snare in Vintage Sunburst (long before I ordered this kit) but Pearl Europe said "no" to it, even though Pearl USA said it can be done. And to add insult to injury I got charged 30% extra for black hardware!

Don't mind the snare though as it sounds fantastic - 4ply maple snares are resonant, warm, and sensitive :D

Ride cymbal got sent off today - I should be one of the first people in the UK with a Sig Dark Full Ride! I should even have it before a couple of endorsees who ordered it get theirs :p

Maybe I'm spoilt because of what I own now.... but I remmember the playability being a bit average.

GAK had the cheaper Parkers for about £200 around Christmas time, and I tried one in a local shop to see if they were any good. To be honest, I hated it, the neck felt so narrow I couldn't even play a powerchord comfortably. :p

Although strangely enough, I picked up a Nitefly SA for a strum in that same shop a few months prior to that, and I loved the feel of it. :o

That would be proberly because the £200 one one build in Korea whilst the SA is a 'Nitefly' model, and is made in the USA :) I expect the price difference was quite large?

The old style model I showed a pic of above of the P44 had very wide neck actually, I guess they completely revamped the range. The one ones look like they have a carbon fibre neck as well. My one was wooden. Hmm!

Nah, you misunderstand me (or perhaps I misrepresented myself). What I meant was that I liked the feel of the Nitefly's neck, it was more suited to my hand than the cheaper neck, which was far too narrow. It just surprised me that there was such a big difference in the necks of the models, I thought they would have followed similar dimensions.

how much was the birch shell pack if you dont mind me asking.

I got it on a deal for £525 from the Drum Shop as the Catalina Birch is now discontinued, so they were shifting stock. This is just for the 6-piece shell pack - all other stuff I either had or bought seperately.

Shame they are discontinuing them (in favour of Catalina Maple/Ash) as the Birch really gives it attack. After hearing these I've got to save up for one of the Renown or USA Custom kits - they must sound fantastic.

My new ride cymbal arrived today (21" Paiste Signature Dark Full Ride, absolute cracker) so here's the proper pics of my Gretsch:

Drums: Gretsch Catalina Birch (8/10/12/14/16/22), Pearl MMX Snare (14"x6.5")
Hardware: Pearl rack/throne/booms, Tama IC hi hat stand, DW7002 pedal (soon to be a Tama IC flexiglide double)
Cymbals: (Paiste) 8"/10" 2oo2 Splashes, 14" 2oo2 Medium Hi Hat, 16"/17" 2oo2 Crashes, 18" 2oo2 China, 20" Giant Beat, 21" Signature Dark Full Ride

I play prog rock music, from Pink Floyd to Dream Theater and Transatlantic mainly, and it pretty much suits all my needs. I'm going to pick up a Paiste Tripple Raw Smash cymbal for a stack (it's three cymbals put together basically!) and that should just about do it . . .

As far as I am aware, the cheaper ones are good, but not amazing. There are proberly better guitars to spend your money on. I had a P44 but sold it.... took a picture of it with an aweful camera..... heres an internet pic of the same thing:

Maybe I'm spoilt because of what I own now.... but I remmember the playability being a bit average.... but the sound.. oh my did that guitar sound FAT and the piezo was supurb. Regretting selling it, wouldn't want anything else for bashing out power chords.

Got a Nitefly off ebay (What a cool name eh?) and just my luck had a slightly faulty neck that I've never had repaired properly. The neck on the american models (Carbon fibre) is just supurb. Flawless IMO, everything else plays so slow!

Heres what I own now:

Just when I'd manage to squash my GAS for a Parker...

Couple of new pics - I took the drums outside for a photo shoot / annoy the neighbours / because I can session :D

Couple of pics of the drums and one of me playing my new acoustic, which my stepdad gave to me for free. (he's had it for ages but doesn't play guitar! It's an old Hohner acoustic)

The kit is a Gretsch Catalina Birch (snare drum is a Pearl Masters Custom) with Paiste 2oo2 cymbals. (except the big Giant Beat crash / Signature ride)
