Gears Of War 4 (coming to Win 10 in Oct)

Looks good @3440x1440 for me and runs very nicely maxed on a single 1080. Turned off motion blur and turned down DOF though as I hate both those settings. Im playing a game and I dont want it to blur when I turn or blur out half the scenery

haha I always turn off dof and motion blur in games as well,i hate blurriness, I want everything to be clear and sharp :) lol

Exactly! We pay all this money for high resolution monitors and GPU's for games to blur out half the image to make it more film like? Not for me :)

I've not used it for years but if it's key mapping can't you just do it to a custom profile without linking to a .exe? Just map the keyboard press to the desired mouse button? Surely as far as the game is concerned you're just pressing a key on a keyboard.

You can but what that results in is that the default desktop profile then gets screwed, so the buttons I use to navigate back and forth web pages, zoom and the dpi will need to be changed back every time I am not playing the game. Small compromise I guess but it's the only workaround atm.

Finally installed after about 3 hours!

Plays super smooth at 1440p 1070

I did hear on a few podcasts before launch that the initial prologue missions graphics seem really dumbed down then when you get to present day it kicks in with the up to day look

Certainly felt the prologue bit seemed a bit bland so heres hoping thats the case

Yeah, the prologue is basically a repeat of the end of 3 (ish). I spent about 3 hours playing last night and managed to get to Act III in that space of time. I'm not sure how many acts there are but the chapters could really do with being a little longer.

Saying that, I'm really enjoying what I've seen so far and can see co-op campaign being a lot of fun! Graphics are superb!

Weird choice for them to make, people can be put off almost right away if the visuals arent up to snuff! Cant wait to get further in

haha, I thought the same thing. Playing the Prologue I was actually thinking "Is this what is looks like"?

I almost closed it down lol

It's better once the game starts on the Acts

I loved the approach to the start and I can recall those scenes in the previous games whilst showing a different perspective. Those scenes did not re-enact the end of Gears 3 though

Same as every game dude. 5 acts with 5 sections to each act

Played horde last night .. was doing well until wave 20 when 3 peeps left and just 2 of us trying to defeat the boss ... then there was just me so had no chance :)

Right, sorted it out last night by uninstalling and re-downloading. 4hr job :/
Also made sure that the latest windows patch released yesterday was installed. Somehow, that took 2 1/2hrs alone

Gears admin have said this today:

Hi everyone,

If you are still stuck with the PC update, here's what we found:

1. The update should be about 350MB to 400mb.

2. If you go to get the update from the game, close the game before trying to get the update.

3. This update requires OS build 14393.222, but we've found some users are able to start downloading it on an older OS version for some reason. If you are not on at least 14393.222, there is an OS bug that guarantees you will have to download the whole package again.

4. We've been investigating the reports of needing double space for the download. Here's what we think is happening:
The store downloads only the differences in the binaries, which should be about 350MB to 400MB.
It appears to be copying any file that changed to a new version directory while maintaining the old file throughout the patch process. We have a 37GB and 16GB file in the package.
If during this process the disk runs out of space, it abandons the patch and gives an error.

Right now the only workaround I can think of is to do the following prior to the update:
a. Go to Settings -> System -> Apps & Features
b. Find Gears 4 and move it to another drive that has more space free
c. Update through the store
d. Move the install back to the smaller drive

Alternatively, uninstall the game and reinstall should work, but is obviously bandwidth heavy.

5. Reddit user 422415 found this solved their problem:
Log into windows. Open browser, go to microsoft.com, change password. Open command prompt, type wsreset.exe Immediately log out of windows. Log in with new password Open gears of war 4 Gears will then say it needs update and will open the store Click on the wheel next to gears to update. update starts downloading (close Gears if it is still running)

just as a note also, once its downloaded the ~400mb it looks like its stopped and crashed. it hasnt, just leave it alone. apparently its revalidating the 80gb installed and even with an ssd it took me 15 mins or so.

also make sure the game isnt running in the background as that causes an error.

I think MS could take a few leaves from Steam's book regrading the store page and notifications to end users. I would love to see it telling me it's validating!

Granted it is early days still for the store. They need to sort these bugs out. Downloading a full game again for a 400mb patch is insane.

Will I lose any campaign progress if I uninstall and then re-download?
