Geforce GTX 780, 770 coming in May

The 770 will be an incremental update. The 780 is actually a lot, lot closer in architecture to the Titan than it is the 680.

GK104 vs GK110

770 is highly likely to be a re-badged GK104 (680 basically) with possibly more voltage. So at 1080 the 7950s are likely to be ~10% slower when both are overclocked and this gap will widen at higher resolution.

The 780 is still not massively faster than a year old 680. What, about 25% faster? For an extra £200? Hilarious.

I'll wait for deals on the older cards like I did when I bagged my 480 for £180 after the 580's came out :)

Probably will have GPU Boost 2.0, but limits in voltage. The memory is a standard 7000MHz effective, instead of 6000MHz. Which is a *decent* upgrade. The core I think comes in at 1100Mhz and will overclock further, tbh the 770 is what the 680 SHOULD have been. It's to directly compete with the 7970GE.

25% is not what I would call incremental though. It's a pretty decent bump.

Price... the market will determine if it is acceptable or not just like it did with the Titan :).

Time will tell.

It'll still be slaughtered at high res and triple screen resolution. The 256 bit bus does tank in some games quite badly if you apply AA.

If it released at the 680's price and gave 25% then ok. But to wait a year and then have to pay an extra £200 over a 680 is just unbelievable.

I will not be buying any more nvidia cards until their pricing policy changes.

They are just price gouging as amd don't have a new round of cards. Sorry nvidia, but not all of us have less sense than money.

I am a bit miffed. The waterblocked 780s are now out and available to buy. I wanted one of these in the first place but OCUK told me they won't be available for another week at least so I bought a normal ref Gigabyte card instead.

Now had to place a separate order for a compatible waterblock and backplate and I'll have to fit it myself and paid postage twice. Rare for you but that is a bit poor OCUK .

For it to have been good value the 780 would have needed to have come in at 680 prices, 770 at 670 prices etc.

This is meant to be a generational leap, yet the part replacing the current high end (680 being replaced by 770) is only marginally faster for the same price. The actual top end part, which is a good bit faster is another £200-£250 more expensive.

It looks a fantastic card. If it had been priced at 680 prices, it would have been a phenomanaly good card. Possibly 1 of the all time greats.

However, due to Titan, that was never likely to happen.

Cancel original order? A quick phonecall and they will sort it out, I'm sure. Always had excellent customer service anytime I have needed to contact them.

I would but my 780 has already been shipped. This would create a massive ballache as I would need to pay £670-ish on top to get the waterblocked card and then send back the original 780 they sent to me and wait for them to refund me.

I have posted in the customer services section to see if I can at least get my postage refunded given that I had to place a second order for a waterblock/backplate.

If I remember right, I don't think they will ship it until this evening.

You still have time to phone them and change your order.

if you made another 20 or so posts you would get free shipping anyway

I obviously don't post enough :D.

Kaap I checked and they are super quick these days. Order already shipped so time for me to learn how to crack open a card and apply a block/backplate.

Its counter intuitive but the Titan PCB is a really easy first card to do it on due to the layout being less cluttered than most :)

It is very easy to fit a waterblock/backplate, I think you will find it interesting.

I was a little worried when I did the first one the other week but it was very straight forward.
