Geforce GTX 780, 770 coming in May

Remember when a good Gcard upgrade would last you a long time? ATI 9800XT, NVidia 8800 Ultra, both lasted me ages my current card (560ti) isnt 18 months old yet and it is ready to go into the wifes PC.

Sold my GTX 670 back around October time, dabbled with a 7950 for a while in December. Will go for the GTX 780, I just hope it's less than £500, I've got the cash to splash along with a new Haswell rig.

Now do I wait for a non reference version, I remember when the 680's came out last year, within about 2-3 weeks the Gigabyte Windforce version was making an appearence.... h'mm decisions.

It's been a long time, fedup of just playing Wolfenstein Enemy Territory on HD3000 onboard graphics lol. :(

You need to become like me, learn to turn the settings down ;)
Keeping the 660s till AMD show their hand might make more sense than upgrading to two more mid range cards tbh, that's what i would do.

Haha, I agree, I tried Metro LL in DX9 mode, Physx disabled and SSA0 disabled, still drops under 30fps :p. That game is just very demanding and it looks amazing, first game in a long time that's made me think an upgrade is worthwhile. If it's a sign of things to come then these 660's just aren't gonna cut it. Remember as well that the 760ti is really a GTX 670 in disguise, 670's are considered high end aren't they?

I am surprised how few promotions and sales I am seeing considering that 6xx series is all but EOL now and 7xx imminent... It's like vendors were asked by Nvidia not to steal the launch's thunder with sales :)

I mean EOL like sales:) Once 770 is launched and IF it's launched at £350 (as many suggest in this thread), who will want the £400+ (or even £350+) 680s? You'd think now is the time to sell them off, but no...

The 560ti was not a high end card though like the 9800xt and 8800 Ultra were.... If you would have bought a 580GTX then that would still be good.

The first benchmarks of the upcoming GeForce GTX 780 have been unveiled by Chiphell forums. The benchmarks show that the GeForce 700 series graphic card is on average 20% faster than the GeForce GTX 680.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Benchmarks Unveiled

The GTX 780 would be the flagship product of the 700 series and would be based on a cut down version of the GK110 core codenamed “GK110-300-A2″. This core would have 2304 cores and a 3 GB GDDR5 memory which would operate along a 320/384-bit memory interface. The core is maintained at 837 MHz with Turbo boost of 902 MHz while the memory operates at the reference 1502 MHz of 6 GHz effective clock speed.

The GPU would make use of the cooler from GeForce Titan which would allow for better thermal specs providing users more overclocking headroom. The pricing is suggested around the 500-600 Euros mark for GeForce GTX 780 while overclocked models which would also be available at launch are going to cost slightly more.

Reports suggest that the GeForce GTX 780 would be the first GK110 GPU that NVIDIA would allow AIBs to offer with custom board models.

20% performance increase isn't to be sniffed at. Hopefully it will be less than a 20% price increase as well.

Well no, but take in to consideration the price it will likely be, and how a 20% boost only puts it in 7970GE territory and it's not too good.

It's all dependent on price, if they undercut the 7970, great, but what are the chances of that happening?

7970 GE is not really close to 20% faster than a 680 though (unless you're counting super high res) so I wouldn't say it was in that territory.

I have just been searching game bench results and 20% would put it ahead by a fair margin over the 7970GE. AMD win some and Nvidia win some in the 680 Vs 7970

Nothing there that makes the 7970GE 20% faster than a 680.
