Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

You are kidding right? 2-4 months at this point is FOREVER!!!! I been waiting on this card for half a year already!

I guess if you have nothing now then it is a long time, but what he said "very long time" sounds more like a year etc.

Working on the basis that Pascal chips are no longer being manufactured my guess is new cards in the next 3 months but the question is when.

NVidia will only have a finite supply of Pascal chips so if they want to carry on selling GPUs it will have to be on a new architecture.

Mr leather jacket can justify saying a long time before the next gen of GPUs as 3 months in a business where products are replaced yearly is a very long time.

Indeed. If you were to not buy tech when it's replacement is right round the corner you'd never buy anything!
Better that than being one of the unfortunates, who buys old-gen at full price a few weeks before next gen makes his card awful value for money.

The only time waiting is a gamble is when there has been no official announcement. The degree to which it is a gamble can normally be guessed at by the age of the current gen, and the usual cadence of releases.

Right now we're expecting something new. Those of us who don't mind waiting (because we have other things to do!) are well advised to wait.

There hasn't been an official announcement. You could be waiting a year for an AIB card at a decent price.

It’s never a gamble to wait, it’s always the more prudent option.

The question is how willing are you to wait, and what value do you place on playing games now rather than then.

I’ll happily wait a year for the ti, if there’s no rumours abound by then, then it’s whatever is the top end at that time. Hopefully AMD manage to pull it off, but they’re too busy giving Intel the brown pants at the moment.

But if you keep waiting for something better you'll never buy anything! Had my 1080 for over a year now, no regrets at all.

Nobody "always waits" or "keeps waiting forever".

It's a complete logical fallacy. Of those who advocate waiting, most people wait a bit, or even wait a lot, but at some point buy something.

The idea that there are people out there on Voodoo 2 GPUs because they're "always waiting" is a bit silly, really ;)

Quite. I got my 980(s) near launch, no regrets even when the ti came out. You’ve just got to decide when buying is right for you.
