It's a complete logical fallacy. Of those who advocate waiting, most people wait a bit, or even wait a lot, but at some point buy something.

The idea that there are people out there on Voodoo 2 GPUs because they're "always waiting" is a bit silly, really ;)

New GeForce GPU to come in August

When asked about when Nvidia will release its next-generation GeForce GPU platform, Huang said it still takes some time. But industry sources expect the new platform to still be built using TSMC's 12nm process and hit the market by the end of August 2018 at the latest to stimulate demand in the gaming market.

The sources also expect Nvidia's new GPU built on TSMC's 7nm process will be available in 2019, with trial production likely to start in the fourth quarter of 2018.

The sources indicated that as Intel still dominates the global market for server platforms, it will take time for Nvidia to develop a solid presence in the market. They added that Nvidia will still rely on PC graphics card chipset solutions for profitability and face competition from Intel in AI chip market.

But why would they release a new card in august 2018, then release another new card 6 months later? They have not done that before, they usually release a generation of cards then 2 years later do the next one. Sounds odd they would do that? Or could be the 1180 is on 12nm and the 1180ti is on 7nm?
 
Nothing in that article confirms anything about a due date unfortunately. All Jensen actually said is “it will take some time” everything else is from ‘sources’ whose position and reliability are unmentioned.

God I hope it is though.

For 1080p gaming (the most common resolution) there's been no "reason" to upgrade since the 980 nearly 4 years ago. Moving into higher resolutions, the 1080 has been knocking out an easy 60fps for two years and still going strong. The higher refresh Ultrawide space is now catered for by the 1080ti with relative ease. All of this is now achievable on a single card, too.

That's a fair analysis but I always followed the technology irrespective of whether I'd be buying it and now that it's slowed to a glacial pace in the GPU space it's all a bit boring. I understand as the complexity increases so do costs and time but I can't help but feel the lack of competition has slowed it further, not that companies can be blamed for making maximum profit.
 
We’re seeing high refresh 4K screens, and some pretty awesome monitor tech.

It won’t be that long before enthusiast level is 4K 100Hz+ and we don’t have a card for that yet.

Strings points are utterly valid, we have incredibly capable cards for most users, and the next gen should seal the deal for high refresh gaming.

To be honest I think we’re very lucky, prices are high and that’s not great, but the quality of our gaming is utterly epic. I do think a lot of games lack the soul and character they once did, but that’s not down to GPUs. Next gen is really for making high resolution, high refresh rate gaming more accessible.

On the contrary. Many older games will happily play at over 100 fps at 4K on present-day cards. Yes, they may not look as great as the latest games, but they're still fun.

How many 4K screens do over 60Hz at present?

I can play older titles at bonkers frames but that’s not the point I was making :)
 
Question about the founders edition cooler, is it good enough? Like in terms of noise and temps. Or would it be better to wait for AiBs

I found the 1080 one to be fine, but it struggled to cool the 1080Ti. I'd say anything upto **80 would be fine for an FE, certainly wouldn't put me off if it meant getting my card 5/6 weeks earlier!! They're quality construction and materials too, very nice :cool:

The fastest gaming GPU available uses it

The downside is it is a little more noisy than the AIB partner ones but is guaranteed to work.
