Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

you know miners used to get a lot of stick and blame for the price increase of cards over the last 12 months or so and maybe rightly so,but in my eyes people who pre order the ti £1200 cards (I think last gen ti were £700?) are doing exactly the same in the long run, your giving NVidia the nod to say hey these prices are acceptable and setting a precedent for the pricing, thats not going to be undone and only going to get worse next gen, once they have had a taste for selling £700 cards at £1200 its only going to get worse in my opinion

of course you have every right to pre order, its your money but its not helping in the long run sadly, maybe if people hadn't pre ordered and sales were poor they may have reconsidered the pricing..maybe.

Cars don't jump massively in price from one model to its replacement.
If you bought a £75k sports car and the manufacturer introduced the replacement at a huge jump, buyers would probably go with a rival brand.
It's not unreasonable to be able to stay at the same tier for a realistic and incremental increase each architecture change imo.
As a 70 buyer I feel like I may be forced down a tier should I continue to try to spend the sort of money I want to...no more than £450.
If I had a 1080ti and wanted a 2080ti I would definitely feel that I was being taken advantage of.
I can't realistically go AMD though as I am SFF.
The issue is that many people can’t see past the badge so don’t look under the bonnet.
NV possibly made a mistake in using the 2080Ti badge as that alone has blinded people to what it actually is.
This is not just the latest BMW M5 with an incremental jump in performance and price but a much larger jump.
That’s why the price hike is much higher than normal.
Not that I don’t think it’s excessive just not as much as those wailing about it do.
Buy what you are prepared to spend on and the 10 Series is still available new so it’s not as if you are forced to buy the new ultra expensive BMW M5 because the outgoing model is no longer in the showrooms.
Some people really lack context and most are just buying these to play games for God’s sake; they are just luxury toys.

I've been saying this at various points.

It makes a mockery of those who say "You were never going to buy." As if the Ti cards are the only cards that have been affected.

Quite a few of us would have bought a 2070 if it had matched/beaten a Ti and cost £400. Even more of us would have bought a 2060 if it matched a 1080 for £280. Loads, in fact.

But the 2070 price of £570-£600 is insane for a mid (not even mid-high) card. And I don't think anyone at this point would bet against the 2060 being £360+. Unless, that is, the barely given any improvement to the xx60 and lower cards, in order to de-value them and push people upwards in the range (also quite likely).

Well, the price of consoles are still in the lower end and will drove more people there. If the install base of PCs with good hardware doesn't grow or at least stay the same, even less love will be shown to this platform, as the hardware to target some big improvements is not there and not there are also the possible clients - which will buy the game on console.

And that's a bigger problem which doesn't care for excuses (some rather funny) like inflation, no serious competition, etc.

I also find it funny how people are saying that RTX is rubbish cos it only does 30-50fps @1080p but this is with an un-optimised game and un-optimised drivers... give both the games designers and the driver makers a chance to prove what they can do before slagging them off!

As a PS4 pro and a 1080ti owner with a pre order for a gtx 2080, I can honestly say any comparison's to console gaming really is a mute point for any self respecting pc owner as quite simply the majority of any big releases run at 30fps , a PS4 pro is a excellent device for PS4 exclusive titles and no way would I buy a game that is available on PC and PS4 ,on PS4 , due to the frame rates etc

I had a pro for 2 months whilst I was stripping my loop down. The novelty soon wears off when you think about playing certain non-exclusive titles at 30 frames. Knowing full well you could be playing them at native 2k/4k at 60 or more. It really couldn't be more of a moot point.

Persona 5 and God of War are excellent titles not to be missed, but beyond those 2 games in the past 12 months the PS4 has not seen much use.

But it will come in handy for the Red dead redemption while the PC version is still been worked on, the new Spiderman game might be a purchase.

Gaming can be cheap on console , buy the game ,finish it and flog it on for a few pounds less .

But given the opportunity PC all the way for gaming.

Guys, can you please stop with the euphemisms about certain sexual acts with regards to the pricing of these cards. The price is the price. Either take it or leave it. If it's too expensive then buy something else or just don't buy it full stop.

Other than info about the cards, this is the best post of the thread!

I don't think people are really thinking of Nvidia's proprietary extensions (RTX) to Microrsoft's DirectX 12's RT are rubbish. It's more that it is just not market ready, at least not with this generation. Nvidia has so far shown us that their 2080Ti does not do full scene RT at any acceptable gaming frame rate, even at 1080p. Instead, RTX RT lays effects on top of a rasterized scene, and even then uses a lot of guess work (denoising) due to lacking the required grunt, before adding in Deep Learning Super Sampling in an attempt to smooth things out.

It's a huge cost increase for bodged RT support, hence so many including myself will skip this generation. Those who have some professional use will adore this card.

(edited to change 'botched' to 'bodged')

Can people just quit the BS and insults about bottom feeders who are too poor to buy a 2080Ti or idiots because they’ve pre-ordered one?

Really don’t understand the mentality of either camp.

I’m a bit pee’d at NV as I’d held off buying a 1080Ti purposely as it was wasn’t quite fit for purpose for my personal requirements. Got a 4K TV this year, wanted a powerful enough card to do it justice. Have had cash put aside to pre-order a 2080Ti as soon as they were announced but NV decided to increase the price from what I expected to be about £750 up to £1250 for a similar type card. Now that’s a whopping increase of 66% from one generation to another and feels a bit like they are taking the pee. That’s not due to Brexit, inflation, exchange rates, or manufacturing costs, that’s just down to plain old greed and price manipulation from NV to clear their old stock.

And before anyone says but they’re a business and they need to make a profit, their last public figures showed record profits already. The price hike on these new cards has nothing to do with a business need to do so, they’ve done it because they don’t give a **** about their customers.

Now unfortunately I still don’t have a card to purchase so I will have to wait and see if they reduce the prices appropriately in a few months time or if AMD can release something competitive.

One thing that won’t be happening though is NV getting me to stump up 66% more than I was expecting to pay. I would probably have caved in if it had been £800-850, if it was powerful enough, but they’re just taking the **** with the pricing currently.

It’s a shame that people are lapping up the pre-orders regardless. :(

You can get a 2080ti for £1049. Still not your budget but it's not £1250.

Also why is it a shame that people are pre-ordering? If it's someone's hobby and they have the money why should they not pre-order just because someone else can't afford it? You mention people's mentality in your opening and then say why are people lapping up pre-orders.

Personally I am more interested in DLSS and hope that will expand to more titles. For example, I find ARK to be a very beautiful looking game, but immensely laggy. As it is one of the titles announced to make use of DLSS that should, in high hopes, make it beautiful and smooth.

I was after one of the shorter boards due to case size. The EVGA SC seemed about the right size but comes in at between £1250-1300 I think.

What I was referring to about mentality was the need certain people seem to have for slinging insults at each other, nothing to do with my personal opinion that people pre-ordering at these prices are giving the nod to NV that the new prices are acceptable, which they are not IMO. It’s got nothing to do with whether people can afford it or not.

In fact I’d be surprised if there’s anyone that actually wants one that couldn’t find a way to get one, whether on CC or finance, etc, rather than a straight debit transaction. In the grand scheme of things it’s a graphics card, not a new car purchase or a mortgage. Just a very expensive graphics card.

There's already been some good posts about the 1080p 30-60fps thing being pretty much nonsense, people are still going to spin it every chance they get though as they love wallowing in negativity.
