It's a bit silly, I think most people who can be rinsed, have been rinsed. It's not like they're the only ones with stock any more, I've seen competitors with stock at normal prices today on Zotac/Asus/Palit. I see a Palit GamingPro OC for £1200 in stock right now, though just one (not from one of the go-to competitors though).
 
Hmmmmm so I wonder ... If my gigabyte 1080ti fails in 2.5 years... I suppose the warranty replacement would be a 2080.... But maybe one could argue that on certain use cases a 2080 is not a fair replacement and only a 2080ti will do? (Ie less ram and lower performance in same apps)

Actually I see the Palit GP OC in stock in multiple places, one where its £1250 and another where it's £1170.

Yeah a few places have stock, £200 cheaper in some instances. It's just farsical seeing the preorder price then as soon as some stock hits the price shoots up by hundreds, yet other places can do it for the preorder price.

And I notice @Gibbo hasn't commented on this even though he's been tagged numerous times regarding price. Realistically we all know the reason as said before, the fact they're avoiding commenting on it as there's no real way to spin what's blindingly obvious.

It's not in itself that the 2080 is more expensive and performs on par with 1080 ti. What's appalling is it's more expensive with the same performance 1 1/2+ year later.

While I understand what you're saying it's the 2080Ti that is the absolutely the most absurdly priced GPU is the history of mainstream GPU's for only 25% more performance. If you buy a 2080Ti your part of the problem.

I don't disagree... it's maybe single figure % better for 25% more money... but the 2080Ti is anywhere between 20-40% better (game dependent) for over 80% more money!! And that's based on the cheapest 1080Ti @ £600 and cheapest 2080Ti @ £1100... many people are paying quite a bit more than that.

Similar type of situation to say the least. 2080 really makes no sense unless you're coming from a 980\980ti or lower, or you really want the dlss and ray tracing in games but don't want to stretch to the 2080ti. It's an upgrade in some scenarios and a sidegrade in others.

It's only a sidegrade if you have a 1080Ti. Anything 1080 or lower would be upgrade

It's a sidegrade coming from a 1080Ti. Anything else is an upgrade... the value of that depends exactly what you're coming from and what games you play. It's going to be different for everyone. Even from a 1080Ti, we MAY see a situation months from now where a 2080 pulls ahead, especially if devs can figure out ray tracing and get that working smoothly. The 1080Ti is maxed out... it's as good as it's ever going to get. Same can't be said for 2080... not yet anyway. It can't even definitively be said that it's a senseless purchase coming from a 1080Ti... it's just a rather risky one if none of the RTX features pan out, and yeah if that happens ultimately it could be senseless.
