Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

Have you formatted your computer lately? Not tried those games in truth, also what I find acceptable and enjoyable is not the same as others. Some games I am happy with even 30fps and having g-sync helps. Other people need minimum 144fps or they will call it a slideshow otherwise.

It is not just you, many feel the need to max out settings. But if you did a bit of research or played about with settings you would see that in many games going from say very high to ultra may make little to no difference to IQ while playing, but the impact on fps can be huge. Not saying it is like that for every game, but in my experience many games it is.

Guess which has much better IQ, ultra at 1440p or very high at 4K?

As I always say each to their own though. If you need minimum 75fps on latest games and everything maxed out then best stay at 1440p until at least 7nm cards at the very least. These new cards won’t be for you for sure.

Even if you can game at crazy high fps @2160p with all the settings maxed you only notice the improved image quality for about 5 minutes, for the rest of the months/years you play the game it is all about gameplay which in modern titles is often quite poor.

Very true. I just replayed through Half-Life and it's expansion packs and really enjoyed it. More so than most games in the last 10 years. Alas, I am dragging this thread way off topic.

indeed..... my contempt for valve for allowing this IP to die cant be over emphasised (though this is maybe not the thread for it)

(I just hope HL2 VR is still coming)

objectively you are right on the money however if we actually felt like that we would still be happy with 7xx cards for anything other than VR as they can still run games at playable levels.

Personally I want it all, game play, visuals and sounds.

(though i still love retrogaming)

On what planet would the GTX 1170 be £800? If anyone buys it at that price they can't be smart enough to build a PC.

NVidia XX60, XX70, XX80, XX80Ti and Titan cards tend to have their target price points regardless of what architecture they come from. The are some things that can change this a little like the exchange rate and inflation but they don't make massive differences.

The GTX 1180 when it does finally arrive will probably be over £600 to start with but then drop down when the 1180 Ti turns up at around £700.

+1

Well said :)

Eh? Why you mentioning a 1170?

1170 will hopefully be at around 1080Ti performance like the 1070 was to to a 980Ti. If this is the case I will probably buy one of those as it would play everything at 4K for me personally. But again remember, I do not require 75fps minimum or having it maxed out to enjoy games.

Even in games where I can get 200fps I turn Depth of Field, Motion Blur, Chromatic Aberration, Lens Flare etc off.

Then my next upgrade will be when Cyberpunk 2077 comes out, which will probably need a 1280Ti or something :D

Just be prepared for a shock, that's all I am saying. With my 1080. I was getting like 40FPS in RUST with settings everything to LOWEST. Plenty other games were equally demanding. FarCry 5 I had all settings down to lowest to get it playable at 4K and it looked terrible.

What's really telling for me is that OCUK are only selling 7 models of 1080's, and gibbo has said the inno3d x4 will be part of the sale on Friday, not sure why anyone would have bought this card before the price drop, but it looks like a steal when dropped. When I checked this morning EVGA were lowest priced 1080ti, and there FTW3 was 4th or 5th lowest, now 1080ti's have had a drop down to £650 and have Destiny 2 bundled, so yeah I'm now convinced that partner email leak from the other day is 100% correct and we are very close to the 1180 release, exciting times !

Just does not sound right man. Not saying you are lying or anything, obviously that is your experience but something is wrong somewhere. You should easily be able to get around 40-50fps on FarCry 5 with a little optimisation.

Doubt it, looks like it was running fairly well for an alpha @ 4k/30 on a single 1080Ti, and it's not coming out for at least another year :D.

Hopefully the game is well optimised together with being ahead of its time for graphics. Knowing me I will play it 30fps just to play it at its highest perceivable settings like I did with Crysis back in the day :D

I was getting low-mid 40s on my overclocked 980 Ti 1550mhz 8ghz on the memory which about matches a stock 1080 so with an overclock you should have an enjoyable experience. This was all on the highest settings

Anyway. I'm just saying personally it wasn't for me. I've tried it. had the 4K monitor for a week. tried everything and I didn't get on with it. Doom was great but found I had to make too many sacrifices in too many games.

Also, side note. GTA I found looked just weird at 4K. Like... "too" good? It looked almost cartoony at 4K. because it was such a fine image. hard to explain. but I found it strange and not really for the better. I'm sure it would have grown on me eventually.

No idea what Beany Bot has/is doing but 4K on a 1080Ti is very doable and Far Cry 5 looks stunning on an LG OLED 55" screen.

35 FPS?? Have I had a bump on the head or is 35 FPS is good now?

35fps is for the 1080, Gregster was talking about the 1080ti which at 54fps is pretty good considering. Bit of different playing fields being discussed.
