Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

The next gen of consoles could kill PC gaming for good as a mass participation sport IMO for all but the most committed tech die-hards, willing to throw money at it.

The new gen of consoles will finally have a decent Ryzen based 6/8 core CPU, 10-12Tflop (at least) GPU and a minimum 16GB of GDDR6 RAM, which should mean finally that they're able to run most games at 4K (albeit chequerboard) 60fps, all for a fixed price outlay of £400-£500.

In the obscenely overpriced world of PC gaming, the reasons NOT to choose console gaming over PC gaming are getting less & less.

I priced up a complete new build PC & G-Sync Monitor the other day, something which I only treat myself to every 4-5yrs or so, and to buy the PC I want to to the desired spec I want, which would last me for the next 4-5yrs, without having to do a Mobo, CPU , RAM & storage upgrade mid life, leaving only a mid life GPU upgrade, came to a staggering £3500! and the truth is I simply don't game enough any more to justify such an amount.

..suddenly a compromised PS5/Xbox Two looked mighty tempting.

I don't think so.

Hardware maybe improving at a faster pace than gaming software but with the hardware minimum spec increasing new software breakthroughs will come as well like for example more complex AI, bigger more expansive world's which will make this 'next gen' console hardware look very 'current gen'. Your then need PC hardware to run it at its best IQ.

Its always the same really. Progress in one thing catches up with another and then the other over takes it again.

I don't see why isn't isn't obvious.

Look at games 10 years ago to see how far we have gone and how far we will go in next ten years.

You are totally missing the point.

With the GTX 1160 you will get a lot more performance for a lot less than you paid 4.5 years ago.

For the record my 980 Ti cards cost £980 each and the price was not inflated by NVidia.

Kingpin 80%+ ASIC 980 Ti cards are not cheap but are worth every penny.

Yes of course you should, that was 4.5 years ago.....?

£980 is silly money for graphics cards, especially if you buy two. That wasn't anywhere near the going price back when the cards were released so I don't know what throwing that in there achieves. The price was almost half that for the best deals.

The 1180 Ti will cost £1000+ anyway, for the cheapest version.

This is nvidia we are talking about they will charge wot ever they want I’m gonna wait and see if it’s to much££££ I’ll buy a 1080ti....

Well yes, but they're not daft. They know all too well that if they priced the 1180Ti at £1K+ it would SERIOUSLY dent sales. People were saying that the 1080Ti would be £1K, and look what happened there.

Exactly its plain silly to say that . any version of GPU of CPU be that semi custom or otherwise in a console will be limited by several factors that include a power usage budget say 300w , a thermal limit and a price limit .

I've just read over here that the 1180 is tagged for a $999 price point :O

I hope that's just a vicious rumour or PC gaming is doomed :(

Mmm, I'm calling BS on that... as many people as there are who would pay it, countless won't. Unless the performance bump on a 1080Ti is like 40-50% it just won't be worth $999/£910, and this will dent sales... in fact I'd go so far as to say it could be the worst value GPU upgrade in history at over £900, ESPECIALLY when you'd be able to get second hand 1080Ti for nearly half that. This is assuming it does only offer the anticipated 15-20% improvement... as I say, if it's more than double that, then the sky is the limit regards pricing.

Hold on, a few of you are absolutely convinced the 1180 Ti won't be £1000 but quick browse on yours truly OCUK store and we find 1080 Tis going for £800+. These are one and a half year old cards selling at that price and obviously people are still buying them or the price would come down. So I can quite easily see Nvidia justifying charging £1000k for it's successor with a truckload of GDDR6 memory and tensor core tech inside it.

1180 non-Ti is almost guaranteed to be more expensive than the 1080 was at launch too.

It’s not how it works mate. As I have said many times, if on each gen prices went up by 20% graphics cards would cost at least a five figure sum by now.

It cracks me up every time new cards are coming out a few people suggest the price has to go up as performance is going up. Lol.

It's madness. We would be paying thousands for a GPU by now if this happened every release. Like I've said before, this was the same rhetoric we were seeing prior to the 1080Ti release, and loads of people thought that would be a four figure card out the gate. Anyway, not long before we can put these rumours to rest and we'll know for sure.

nVidia will release FE versions at £600-ish - these will sell out almost immediately and then remain out of stock until ...

AIB's launch at £700+ The FE stays at £600 odd and remains out of stock. Eventually FE stock trickles in 4-5 months after release.

That's my prediction :D

If the 1180 is £600 expect to pay over £1K if you don't want to wait, because they literally will sell out in 60 seconds flat and then be flogged on ebay for twice the price lol! :D

I completely agree with you. Also you forgot Freesync TVs and monitors the consoles have support already (Xbone X & S) and future ones also. (PS5, next Xbox)

If someone goes to console forums like the official Xbox one, he/she will find many people looking at Freesync monitors to switch at the moment, and in the process they are changing their PC GPU to AMD also.

And I am on the same category as them. I want a new monitor but because still using my XBoneX & PS4Pro and going to replace them with the new lineup next year, was pointless to buy a gsync monitor. So flogged the 1080Ti Xtreme when it still had value and bought a V64 Nitro + that was on offer for £514 earlier this month brand new and not going to look back.
(that I replace my bedroom tv to 55NU8000 freesync TV has nothing to do with it :D )

While in this forum everyone has buried the head in the sand.
