I've got no idea whether Full Fact is the only UK based independent fact checking website as it seems to imply with "Full Fact is the UK's independent factchecking organisation" but I don't see the harm if you're using it as one source from many. Certainly the idea of having someone or something checking facts to see whether claims made are valid is no bad thing to my mind.

There's also Channel 4's fact check blog and the BBC intermittently run fact checking articles and there's always More or Less on Radio 4. Fullfact provides clear sources so you check it yourself if you wish.

It's the I know you all think I am a complete failure but you are voting for the party not me line. Which of course is partly right because we all do know he is an absolute failure but that does not necessarily mean we are going to vote for the party.

It doesn't make sense though, he's the most popular party leader and more popular than his own party.

Bold commitment from Labour regarding VAT.

Only if you forget how many direct manifesto pledges they have broken in the past when they had a substantial majority.

Who remembers the following gems:

1997 - “We are committed to a referendum on the voting system for the House of Commons” - they just didn't bother.

2001 - “We will not introduce top-up fees and have legislated to prevent them.” - once reelected they directly voted to introduce top up fees.

2005 - a number here, but not raising income tax, then introducing the 45% band, and not offering a referendum on the EU constitution or the Lisbon treaty (and going to court to back it up) would be the highlights.

Forgive my skepticism. I would also be interested to know what taxes they are planning to raise.

Which ruling party hasn't broken manifesto pledges?
