'Generic' Shooter

thats not what he meant. And also I believe that halo was the first game to do proper dual wielding while we're at it.

What's proper dual wielding?

I seem to remember you could dual wield weapons in Duke Nukem 3D also, and Timesplitters and many other games.

Maybe he means controlling the fire of the weapon weapon individually, like having it's own trigger button. I'm pretty sure that was in Goldeneye, as well as games like Red Faction 2, and Timplesplitters. Can't remember what it was like in Duke 3D.

Sorry i meant series, And Unreal tournament didn't really have dual wielding, just firing two guns at once. Halo 2 was the first game I believe that let you chose to carry two different weapons, firing them independently. It makes for far more gameplay choices. other games just added a second gun that fired at the same time as the first basically just doubling the firepower of the gun, completely different.

Generic for me is a fairly standard game which does nothing ground breaking or just doesnt have any really outstanding in general. Games like dark sector fall into this category for me though though that said a generic game doesn't automatically mean crap game

But it's true what he said, as he meant only being able to carry two guns.

He can't be serious, surely. I mean oh wow, what a fantastic and incredible development in FPS history that was. Only being able to carry two guns. Jesus the effort, thought and dedication that went into developing that idea must have been immense. A truly revolutionary concept.

It was actually one of the things I loved about the Halo series, and I hated the majority of it.

Games where you can literally carry a whole arsenal of weapons are too easy. Having to plan ahead and make sure you're carrying the right two weapons for the job adds an extra bit of depth to a game, not a huge amount but enough to make a difference.

Must patent triple wielding! I'll be rich :D

 One of many things that made Halo/2 a great game.

Ah ok. One thing i will never deny is how great the dual wielding was in Halo 2. TBH it is one of the only reasons i completed it to be honest. I loved the dual wielding and will always give Halo 2 credit for giving us that. :)

But it was, it made the gameplay entirely different to the vast majority of FPS at the time. No longer could you just carry round a sniper rifle, rocket launcher, pistol, shotgun, machine gun, and every other gun. It made you think about how the guns would be useful to support each other and how it would be useful for the level in question.

The problem we have is, a lot of games are labeled generic if they don't do something to revolutionize the genre or do something radical, and often it blows up in peoples faces.
Sometimes a good old fashioned shooter is all that is needed, or even a return to the old ways, i think we will see more and more games bringing back health packs like Resistance did tbh, as it is starting to get stick for being a bit to easy to go hide for 5 seconds.

And yet it went to rechargeable health, ruining that strategy idea. (see my post just above) :)

See, CoD4. Didn't really bring anything new to the table that hadn't been done before. It just polished everything that was in the game, to make it an enjoyable experience.

Nobodies saying that generic is bad, sometimes a good concept carried out well is all that needed, say Devil May Cry 4 or Command and Conquer 3.

JUMPURS, resorting to calling me a 'fanboy' is ****ing stupid, don't do it. If you want to resort to personal insults, take it elsewhere or in pms. Seriously.

How exactly did that ruin it? It still meant your approach to situations was vastly different based on the weapons you chose, for both single player and multiplayer. And if we're looking at multiplayer, it made an almost class based system, part of the reason its so popular. Players would take on team roles with the weapons they chose.
