Germany Christmas Market Attack (Magdeburg)

Can officers on foot stop a 1+ tonne brick going 50+mph?
The London Bridge and Westminster Bridge attacks in 2017 involved a vehicle and edged weapons, as did the attack last year in Nottingham. In the case of the former two the perpetrators were shot by police before they could do any further harm.

Ahh the usual MO of Western governments ie see the danger approaching and let it happen to serve a political purpose

What political purpose?

Hanlon's Razor most likely applies to the missed tip off. Most people (and by extension companies and government agencies) are immensely stupid and incompetent.

Prevention is surely better than mitigation? Having all this security (theatre in my view) doesn't make anyone feel 'safe'.

All this dancing around the issue will only serve to cause further socio-political instability.

It's the old question, are they mad or bad?

Are they mad for allowing things to happen or are they bad as incompetent?

Nearly every name of these events seem to be known to the authorities before hand.

Or are there hundreds of thousands of names on these watchlists and they can't keep an eye on them all?

Impressive slight of hand to pretend that's the same thing as people on a watch list.

I think that you need to know what the intentions of your new citizens are and their capability rather than just accepting their story at face value. This requires significant intel and evaluation. Most are not baduns but if you don't ask you don't know.

What does that have to do with one of your far right buddies murdering a bunch of innocents?

Firstly I have expressed no sympathies with this scrote, far from it so he is not my buddy. Secondly you have a blinkered attitude assuming that all these guys are friendly and have no animosity with the countries they arrive in and we assume will assimilate nicely in as well. In this case it has been eighteen years before causing trouble. Undocumented migration is a different kettle of fish to those wishing to work in health care or agriculture and arriving in good order.

The forum does have a thread for this so I will leave it at this point.

Germany warned 3 times. Why did they ignore it?

Another good day to bury bad news? Or something else?

I'd probably like to see if that gets reported from official sources rather than a Twitter feed myself before assuming its correct, a quick flick and I can only see a very small number of iffy looking account reporting it, not a single reputable media source from any nation.

I suspect there are a large number of potential suspects being watched in Germany, probably a magnitude greater than what were dealing with in the UK, at some point you can't keep tabs on all of them, and this guy appears on the face of it to have been a lower threat given it seems he wasn't seen as a typical Islamic/Muslim extremist.

Here is a couple of other sources;

A source close to the Saudi government told the BBC it sent four official notifications known as "Notes Verbal" to German authorities, warning them about what they said were "the very extreme views" held by al-Abdulmohsen.

The source, who asked not to be named, said these notifications were ignored.

News magazine Der Spiegel, citing security sources, said the Saudi secret service had warned Germany's spy agency BND a year ago about a tweet in which Abdulmohsen threatened Germany would pay a "price" for its treatment of Saudi refugees.

Yeah was just coming back to say I've since seen the same reported to Reuters via a Saudi Govt Source now .
