Getting into Metal, need some recommendations!

Its called Life Will Kill You.

About 3 years ago I had the good fortune to see Clawfinger at a local pub called The Rigger.
The landlord was the president of the fan club and talked them into playing the pub.
I've been to quite a few concerts over the years but this was awesome and I stood at the end of the bar which is about 6 foot from the stage.
At the end of the night the singer (Zak) actually hit on me and I had to turn him down :D

I was there too! I'm good mates with the landlord, Ian (BUFF). Used to do a a bit of DJ'ing at The Rigger too, when we weren't winning the Sunday quiz that is. If you can remember the quiz, we were the team called 'Satan's Lime Green Underpants'. :p

Ooooh! It's like friends reunited on here...

...except without bad suits, lies and people taking escorts to reunions...

Hammering this album again recently (probably due to hate filled lyrics about girlfriends...)

And.. they are playing in brixton this weekend but i can't make it! :(

Type O Negative, Tool, and Metallica (Anything BEFORE Load), Rob Zombie, Iced Earth....what kind of metal do you like? Heavy Guitar? More intricate drums? kick-butt bass solo's? If you narrow it down more than a few RATM songs. Rage ain't metal by the way.

In all honesty, taking into account what you like, I would suggest

Anthrax - The Greater of Two Evils
Avenged Sevenfold - Waking the Fallen
Pantera - Best of (Reinventing Hell)
Faith No More - The Real Thing

And of course I cannot allow a metal thread to go by without mentioning Isis - Oceanic. Saw them live at Koko on Monday, truly amazing experience.

Shopping today I bought:

Avenged Sevenfold - Waking The Fallen (Love Unholy Confessions)
Rage Against The Machine - Rage Against The Machine
System Of A Down - Toxicity
Evanescence - Fallen

All the suggestions are great, I'm going to give the majority a listen on Myspace and pick up the ones that I like. Thanks again everyone :)

I don't think anything is Metal it's just a term, Metal is really a bunch of sub-genres.

Try this Nightwish song: http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZAsDtM4pxkk

Also give these guys a shot, probably not your thing but no harm in trying: http://youtube.com/watch?v=LWmCNe6NG40

Not their best song but pretty solid band overall. (Cheerleaders with machine guns, can't go wrong.)

I don't really know I only listen to a few songs. :p

Lookout for these songs they are all epic:

Wishmaster
The Kinslayer
She Is My Sin
Beauty & The Beast
Slaying The Dreamer

Too bad they fired the original vocalist in 2005, the replacement ain't as good imo. :o

If you like Avenged Sevenfold (and what's not to like), you'll probably like power metal.

A7x (yes i kno the gay little shorthand) are nothing short of TERRIBLE. just TERRIBLE TERRBILE music all around.

If you like them you will NOT like power metal, they are both mutually exclusive...

*bear in mind I am literally a music nazi and pretty much hate anything where the singer has a floppy black fringe...

Once again: Avenged are gayer than 2 men having sex in a shower while listening to the Village People and flower arranging. gay and terrible!

Power metal is like hair metal with added gay and cheese, although I can tolerate some of it.

Get some Berzerker, Arch Enemy, Dimmu Borgir and Cannibal Corpse in ya ;)

Although, going by what you like so far (kinda nu/rap metal), check out

Machine Head
Killswitch Engage
Trivium
Coal Chamber
Korn

Top Bottom
