Getting iOS7 onto my iphone :)

Got mine updated last night and had a good play last night and this morning. Did a full restore rather than just update. It is really slick and quite like it, a bit weird at first but quite liking it. Mostly I guess because I was so bored of the old interface, like the infinite folders & control centre from the bottom.

As usual though with iOS well implemented features which should have been done years ago! Oh well get there in the end!

Hmm my iPad 3 shows only a 6.1.3 update available? I shouldn't have to upgrade to that just to get 7 shirley?

Does iOS 7 mimic Windows Phone in wallpaper setup? i.e. if you choose a wide image, the image will scroll slightly in the background as you move between home screens?

There is no frosted anything. Flat. Solid. Ugly. Grey. "Soviet Russia" of IOSes. Darkest background they offer:

Same here.. nasty looking.. any what's with the bar at the bottom? that's a really big backwards step cosmetically.

My iphone 4 is barely running it smoothly :( It works but pauses before opening apps and slight freeze's opening message inbox's etc, Loving it so far but shame I have an ageing device :( It does look horrid in places though.

It's definitely a fresh feel for iOS, liking the command thingy loads but hate the search page coming down from the top every time I swipe right to left. Unfortunately whilst I swipe to the right I use my thumb and the swiping action is in form of an arc which the screen reads as a down motion, why didn't they just leave it to the left.

My only criticism is the spotlight search gesture and the notification gesture are too similar.

To use spotlight (which I don't, but I'm sure some do), you need to swipe from the middle of the screen and to use notification centre (which I tend to use a lot), you continue to swipe from the top edge.

Apart from that I welcome the change. Some areas like the "share" dialog need a bit of work as they're too plain or the way iPod doesn't display cover art in cover flow mode is a bit of a step back but it Runs nicely on my iPad Mini and iPhone 5. I was expecting that (iPad Mini) to become the ******* stepchild device and run like dog **** :D

New sounds are weird though. Driving to work this morning and my car was making some crazy sounds. I particularly like the "synth" text tone.

All in all, apart from the servers melting yesterday, I'd say it's the best OS they've done since the inception. If you don't like it you've pretty much got to accept it or leave the Apple ecosystem.

no they've added a parallax type effect to any wallpaper you like its got nothing to do with the width of the screen and definitely nothing to do with windows phone!

Thats what annoys me most about the update it is 90% cosmetic and as far as I can see all the cosmetic changes are a step backwards. The icons are just horrible and the grey bar on the home screen just looks wrong. The supper kiddie icons make everything feel big and chunky rather than smooth and professional. The animations are just pointless, boring and slow the whole experience down and the new version of Safari is something I thought was impossible and that is a step backwards from the old version but still we are forced to use it.

I think it is best summed up by saying what would people be saying about this if it was a new skin released for android and the simple answer is they wouldn't be saying anything about it as it would be universally ignored.

I don't hate it, I'm not going to sell my phone but it just leaves me thinking why did they bother!

Are you sure about the bit with Android? It resembles MIUI a lot to me, which is a rather widely used Android UI.

Just restored my mini to the latest IOS 6. It was pretty easy to do as well, I'm much happier with 6 than 7.

Try using a background that isn't grey or black and it will change. Using a photo will make it more obvious...

I'm going to try this with my iPhone 4. Really like iOS 7 and all the new features it brings but hate the way it runs on my phone. The biggest thing for me is the laggy keyboard. I've tried the common suggestion of resetting all settings which made a difference for 30 mins but its back to how it was before.

Would you mind providing a little more detail on how you restored? I have an iTunes backup of the phone before I did the update but how do I specify the older version of iOS? I would just want to go back to the latest version of iOS 6.
