Ghostbusters: Afterlife

The original scared the heck out of me as a kid... Those terror dogs chasing Rick Moranis gave me nightmares for weeks after

This film looks really well put together. We know it'll be better than the 2016 pile of junk

Glowing doors did it for me, was constantly afraid of doors glowing in the dark!

International trailers are really no different besides slightly different camera angles and a head on look at the gozer statue, and a look at a terror dog statue.

The more I see this it seems a good re-visit to the original film re: Gozer - they just destroyed one possible portal?

I wonder if this new town was a old place for 'Gozer worshippers' - hence the statue and terror dogs. Was the new spooky house owned by Ivo Shandor?

Ray's Occult - haha he's still running the book shop.

The house was owned by Egon. He must have moved out there to investigate.

Yes its mentioned in the trailer but I wonder who could be the previous owner? Shandor dates to the First World War and 1920s in GB universe.

The town also has a mine called 'Shandor' in the first trailer - I wonder if this was to acquire / mine the selenium for the girder cores (Ray mentions this when discussing the building) in the original 1984 film? Its a refined by-product from ore.

It probably was used for that purpose and the mine also contains the Gozer temple as seen in the new trailer.

Gozer was a good choice to bring back as it has had numerous incarnations in different worlds going by the storyline, also it was never destroyed, it's avatar was with Gozer's essence being thrown back through the gate and the door shut. Would make for a more interesting storyline if Gozer appears much earlier in this movie so the character can have some screen time and development, vs only appearing for a few moments in the original. It looks like thats whats going to happen going by the trailer as they seem to be exploring the temple when Gozer is making its return.

Thinking about it there's a lot of other things they could also address, did Gozer experience the passage of time or was it like an instant door opening after being pushed back into its own dimension? Will it recognise the original Ghostbusters? Will it get a destructor form? Stay Puft is hinted at with the possibility of the mini pufts combining but the trailer with the voice over with Jason Reitman seems to suggest otherwise. Is Gozer a Red Herring and will something more powerful emerge?

Probably best you don't ask so many questions so you don't start creating expectations that will later disappoint you when they are not realised

There are certain cinematic sounds which do that to me, the ecto-1 siren is one, the top gun chime is another, the tracker noise from Aliens is another.

The ecto siren is an odd one, if you watch gb2 at the start of the movie where the car drives along puffing out smoke it has a different sound, gb1 it's more electronic sounding, gb2 it's more horn like. Plus in the gb1 movie during the montage it also has a different faster sounding siren.

This could be fun. Adam geeking out with the cast and crew and props.

It's funny at just how little there is inside the proton pack but Bill Murray still complains about the weight, its mainly aluminium, fibreglass, a battery and a few lights. They were a lot heavier in the first 2 movies due to the batteries they used being massive and the packs had more metal components.

Interesting seeing inside the pack and the cyclotron light is now a light on a spinning mechanism instead of 4 seperate lights that go on and off in sequence.

He is a lot older now though so they will still be heavy. I've put on a full size pack and with the batteries and speaker etc it really is heavy.

The originals with battery were in the region of 50lbs (though Dan Aykroyd has claimed much heavier contrary to the prop makers), the newer ones are less than half that, 20-25lbs or thereabouts.

Is that one of the originals or one of the new ones they made for Afterlife? There are differences. The wand has a new handle, new wiring and there's a quick connect on the wand as well. ;)

The afterlife ones were all scratch built, presumably the shotgun grip is only on the spengler "wand" as there was a toy version sold with the name spengler wand.

Nice to see they haven't deviated too much from the originals, well so far from what has been shown at least.

I have the parts to make a wand up, just never got round to it :( No clue about electronics either so that's part of the problem.
