Good Point ! Nvidia did a good job on that card, But it is a big hot power hungry monster !
The 8800gtx uses 10watts less under full load then a x1900xt-x and the 8800gtx runs much cooler then a x1900xt-x...

only becuase it has a good cooler

but the amount of power is a big increase from nvidias point if compared to ati then its ok

LoadsaMoney-ATi = full set of WHQL official drivers every month for both XP and Vista.

Answers on a postcard please as to who has decent driver support in both XP and Vista. :D

I'l be the first to admit that my 9800 pro had great support but this is a massive change from previous cards so there is no certainty that the many (on past history) driver updates will actually be any good. This argument will only truly be settled once the card is out. Then Loadsa can either flip to smug mode or place that order for the obvious pie. ;)

It doesn't really matter if the R600's first set of drivers are pretty poor, all new cards first sets of drivers are pretty poor, only difference with ATi is, you know you only have a few weeks to wait for the next set, then a few weeks for the next set after that and so on... thats driver support, you don't get that with Nvidia do you, nope you could still be waiting 3 months down the line for a set as they dont support their cards, you do not know when they are going to be arsed to release any. :)

Did you see the absolute huge amount of fixes in the 97.94's that took over 3 months from the last set, of course not as there wasnt any.

Heres the boat load of fixes Nvidia took 3 months to do :-

Issues Resolved in Version 97.94

The following are changes made and issues resolved in driver version 97.94:
Single-GPU Issues Resolved
• The media player hangs when playing MPEG2 HD video clips using
overlay in 1080i and then switching to full-screen mode.
• Added application profile for "Titan Quest Demo.exe" to support the
current demo version.
• The system crashes after four or more suspend/resume cycles.
SLI Mode Issues Resolved
• Company of Heroes, SLI: Screen corruption occurs when "Enhance
the Application Setting" mode is set to 4x or 8x in the NVIDIA Control
Panel.

Yes thats it, as i said in another thread, look at the mountain of game fixes in that (only 1x), astonishing for 3 months, they must have been going at those fixes 24/7 solid for the whole of the 3 months theres that many. :D

You still call that support. :p

Now Now, ATI have had 6 months to do the drivers right out the box and they have had Vista WHQL drivers since November remember....

I expect perfection....

:p

If all this and just 10fps faster omg, ill be hoping Nvidia deliver some miracle drivers like they often can pull out the hat :)

Having said that I still gotta test my TVoutput flaw, if it works on an ATI card ill be like  and consider going towards the R600 ;)

Not disagreeing mate, im just saying that in life (and the world of computer hardware), there are no guarentee's. Nobody saw the 9700 pro coming :D , nobody saw the 5700ultra coming  and nobody saw the 1900x :D coming so soon after the 1800x .

yeah they have, both companys Vista drivers are *****, but at least ATi are resolving their issues on a monthly basis, Feb 20th last Nvidia Vista official WHQL drivers, and i cant even remember if thats their only official WHQL set, so whos fixing and who isn't, exactly. :D

Makes me wonder what they are working on then, maybe the Holy Grail of driver releases. :D

So, the first set of drivers will be poor, but that's ok because the second set will be fine? I don't think so ;). They've had months to work on these drivers, another month won't make a huge difference.

New drivers every month doesn't mean that all driver issues are just a month from being solved.

Have you noticed how many views this thread has?

It'll probably double by tomorrow, with the whole planet tuning in for Gibbo's exposé :D

I agree, i know issues are not going to be solved in a month, but ATi release a set every month that solves issues, Nvidia do not, you could be waiting months for your next Nv set you just do not know, where as with ATi you know you get a set every month that solves issues, so they do have the better driver support by a country mile, Nvidia will release a set when they can be arsed which could be 3+ months down the line, thats not support, to me that says 'we don't give a flying ****, we'll solve issues when we damn well feel like it', ATi solve issues on a monthly basis, thats guaranteed.

How come ATi can release a full set of official drivers for both XP and Vista every month yet Nvidia can not, its clear who has the better driver support, and thats ATi. :)

I can just imagine Gibbo posting tomorrow, my R600 has been delayed. :D :(

ATi may have more frequent driver updates, but you're missing something:

nVidia's driver interface is actually bearable to use, not being a horribly-designed piece of .Net bloatware like the Catalyst Control Centre is.

Just went from 6600GT to X1800XT. Love the card, hate the drivers.

Don't use the bloatware CCC or the.NET, why not do what everyone else does, just download the official drivers on their own, and get ATi Tray Tools to do all your AA/AF etc... settings, no bloatware as no .NET, and no CCC if you don't like it, the drivers and ATT are only about 12mb if that. :D

I have ATI in one PC and NVidia in the other, definately less trouble for me with the ATI Drivers, NVidia ones are just erratic, some times it needs a reboot on starting up just to bring the right sized screen up with legible characters.

Actually it is less than 12mb, the official Display Driver is 9.8mb from the ATi site, and ATT is only 1.5mb, nowhere near bloatware, just over 11mb in size, and your still using official drivers.

You an get ATT from Guru3D, they have the official ATT forum on there to so you can find out a lot about it if you didn't know you could use something different from the bloatware. :)
