@Gibbo - Vega Preorders?

It's already happening. People right here on these forums are talking about their (planned) move to console gaming, and how they are glad to have done so. Prices of PC hardware are a huge factor.

When you consider the possibility that the Xbox X will bring 4K quality to the masses, it might be a very compelling reason to wait - i might do the same if I can't get something to play nice with my 43" freesync 4k monitor - I sold my R9 Nano in preparation for AMD's latest offering, I hope it wasn't in vain due to not actually being able to get one!

And neither Gibbo or AMD can take a gamble on mining, it is very fickle and the craze could die tomorrow. Mining bubble bursts, flood of second hand GPUs on the market which causes it's own set of problems.
That in itself is a compelling reason, as a retailer, to prefer to sell to gamers. Most gamers will probably keep their cards for a good long while, until they feel the need to upgrade for better performance, or it dies. Might build a 2nd rig with old cards rather than selling them on.

As you say, miners flooding the 2nd hand market isn't good for those trying to sell new cards. Short term gain, long term pain, you might say.

Personally, I am sure AMD would like to keep both Gamers and Miners happy but that would depend on the stock levels. RX Vega is a tad late is it not? So have they enough stock to keep both happy. Large orders for professional miners are a different story (talking 30+ or even lower)

PS: If there is a post minimum, then make it 34 !:D

this made me laugh more than it should have :(

Well, not 4K to PC folk but with the witchcraft they do on console releases they manage to sell it as 4K whilst only having ~6tflops to play with, impressive, but it works and if it plays good and looks good, who cares?

PC gaming is under threat for sure, not just from Crypto's

It's much worse than that.

The entire UK allocation at launch will probably be a couple thousand cards. Two or three professional miners could wipe that out in an instant. The pros are running farms of thousands of cards. If Vega is a miner's best friend, watch out...

Sure there's never been anything wrong with gaming on a console if that's your thing, but on gaming sites you always see people say the new consoles will run 4K constant 60fps. Even the new 1x won't be doing that, i think some games are already confirmed locked at 30fps, but it doesn't surprise me because the GPU in it is about half as powerful as the 1080Ti. I'd rather 60fps bare minimum when gaming on PC tbh, but with a high refresh rate screen anything above 80-90fps is very smooth. I do game on a console from time to time on my Switch, that's mainly only because i like portable machines though as well as having a powerful PC.

People say consoles are cheaper and stuff but they rarely factor in the cost of online subscription fees, which is going up for both Sony and MS's online services. Plus the games cost more. I'd really hate to try and play any kind of FPS game using a controller now as well.

Besides aren't most of the 1x games going to be on PC anyway? Don't see any point that any PC gamer would want it, unless they have a low end computer.

1/2 a 1080ti is a 1070, give or take. That's hardly "low end". Alright, the CPU is still a bit pants from what I gather.

But jeez, the way prices are atm you could have a 1070 for £500+ or an Xbox 1X.

Seems stock will be an issue, least if your after the silver version EU wise .
Hopefully OCUK has lots of fingers in different pots

I completely agree with you. And is not only GPU prices. Look at the RAM prices. It costs less to buy the XBoneX than 32GB ram of good quality ram.
Or the monitor prices, especially inlight with the upcoming TVs with HDMI 2.1 , true HDR and freesync, it will be cheaper to buy a big nice TV than a "gaming monitor". Hell, my KS7000 feels much better on gaming than my XL2730Z.

Also how's the 43UD79-B on gaming? Because you mentioned 43" 4K monitor, and is the only one I can think of.

It will though. It might not be to some PC master race level but it will be at a sufficient level where the average consumer is still impressed.

Consoles have been out for years and still have games in their library that make most of my PC games look pretty average. Unchartered, Last of us, God of war and horizon zero dawn all look better than nearly any PC game. Ignoring the whole 60fps arguments.

I was under the impression the gpu was somewhere between an rx 470-480. Held back by the crappy cpu. Although I may be consfusing the PS4 pro, indeed I think I am because the Xbox is a step up from that.

Either way at best Xbox games will need massive optimisation (nerfing) to run at 4K/30.

I've seen a lot of negativity around developing for the 1X that I didn't see surrounding the PS4Pro, I'm not convinced the 1X will claw back the share that Microsoft already lost this generation.

Crazy powerful box is simply a news of the world headline.

We know exactly what it's capable of and it's mediocre at best compared to what is already out there (and very soon to be bettered by Volta)

This just sounds like PC fanboi speak. I have two GTX 1080 PCs and I still look forward to advances in Consoles. Surely you should know by now that consoles are different to PCs.

It's definitely not mediocre. What amazing stuff are our PCs doing? Running Battlegrounds at pretty crap framerates or playing the Witcher 3 which is years old. Or even better still, some modded Skyrim. I am yet to experience a PC game that makes me feel the same way I did about God of War 3 or Uncharted 4.

Im excited for Wolfenstein but I'd bet the PS4 Pro version looks barely any different. We can argue about keyboard and mouse or 144hz monitors, but lets be honest. PCs are becoming harder to get excited about.

And I'd love someone to spec me a PC that can be had for £450 that has a UHD Bluray player and similar real world speeds to this new XBox. We are getting screwed over by Nvidia and AMD gpu prices and we just lap it up.

There are some lovely visuals to be had but I get what your saying. Games like ghost recon wildlands and hunter call of wild do look genuinely stunning.

As for mediocre well I did say 'compared to'. It would probably be more accurate to say 'poor' 'when' compared to what's out there.
