Gigabyte DS3/DS4/DQ6 Guide

I am yes, and my PC was using the O/C settings for the past month with rock solid stability. Today when updating to F5 BIOS it rebooted after 15mins of gaming.

i'm using it and the pc will from a cold boot stop boot stop then run at stock.
this does not happen on a restart
only the cpu host clock control had changed to disable and the system memory multiplier to auto.
never did on with the F4

gone back to F4 boots first time @2.8 and also @3.1 on stock volts and all the same setting as F5.
i also noticed that when trying to save new setting in the F5 bios the machine would do an instant stop where as the F4 runs for a few seconds then shuts down.

RMA

Hi Folks,

I recently purchased a ds3p (rev 3.3) amongst various other components to build a new pc. (cd2 e6600, geil ram)

Having finally put it all together, i pushed the on switch for the 1st time, only for the fans to cycle and then reset, rinse and repeat..... :(

So I have meandered thro the forums, the OP of this thread talks about

the op! said:
With the first board after building the rig it would simply just cycle without posting and would just continue. The fans would spin up but no beeps or anything else! With the replacement board it worked first time proving my first instincts right, that the first board was knackered!

Others seem to have had similar issues, and some have resolve this with cmos resets, processor/heatsink re-seats, blind luck ?

I've tried the above, to no avail, any other suggestions, have i missed something daft? Or am I stuck with taking everything apart again and sending it back ?

Thanks in advance...

i had the same issues last nite and today. but was duff memory well one stick anyways, with one stick it runs sweet as a nut but stick the duff second one back in and all it will do is spin all fans for 15 secs or so and then stop and start all over again.

Hi guys , can i just quote myself from another thread i started in the hope some of you with ds3p's maybe able to help me

Ive had major problems all weekend trying to upgrade my pc,im really at my nerves end

on friday i received from ocuk

Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB 3200AAKS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit

Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3P (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

Installed them all into my case and then tried to install winxp onto the new HDD and this is where ive had the head ache, basicly windows will start its initial install but when it says it needs to reboot its does reboot but then starts the exact same part of the install again.it does it over and over unless u turn off the pc,ive tried differnt xp discs, different disc drives, ive even tried the hdd on another pc and the same thing happens

so i stuck my old SATA (not sata2) drive back in and winxp installed fine with he new mobo ram and cpu

so im thinking that either ive got some mobo bios settings wrong coz ive never used a sata2 hdd before or ive been sent a duff hdd by ocuk
is there a way to force the sata2 hdd to act as a sata1 drive ? so i could try it that way ?

the wierd thing its that the bios sees the hdd and windows sees it BUT partition magic says it cant format it or partition it

please help before i top myself

maybe i have the wrong bios settings for a single SATA2 drive,if some one could tell me exactly what settings i need to use that would be brilliant,im just trying every thing i can think of before i have to RMA the hdd :(

My previous settings(intergrated periphearls settings) I,ve used on the board loads of times and never had the problem your having with my seagate drives. Turn on the lan/onboard audio on if you need too.
Make sure your drive is set correctly in the hard disk boot priority under advanced bios features as its easy to forget that. I can't think of anything else sorry.

thanks for the info , ive checked and ive got the same settings so really does looks like the drive is duff, im gutted , brand new and its borked :(

they didnt even send a RMA number with the order which they used too ? i'll have to phone them first thing in the morning :(

Last ditch resort but you tryed changing the jumper on the back at all like its shown here? Could try changing it to default 1 or 2 depending on what its set at now to see if it makes a difference.
I can't think why you would have to do that but its something else to try.
Also download and run thier Data Lifeguard Tools program on the drive too to see if that picks up any errors.
To get the rma done if all else fails, you can just send them a webnote on the site explaining it all.

I did try a jumper on pins 5&6 (last pic on that list) with no luck ,i'll try it on pins 1&2 now, just downloaded those tools too

thx again for the info linux :)

Not a problem :)
I know what its like to have something on your new pc build turn out to be faulty, its happened to me on each pc build I,ve ever done including the main hd I'm using now ;/
On the plus side at least you,ve got the older drive to get up and running on in the meantime I guess and oc's are pretty quick at sorting out rma's.

Sorted my HDD probs :)

im looking at clocking my 6600 and ive been following monsters guide, one thing that had baffled me and this will sound stoopid , but i cant find the "VDIMM" setting in my bios (DS3Pmobo F5bios)

ive tried pressing ctrl+f1 , is this vdimm named something else in this bios by chance ?

DIMM Overvoltage Control.

Hey all,

I built a pc for my friend the other day with these specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6420
Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3P
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB GDDR3
Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU

Now he'd never done overclocking before so I said I'd do it for him. I read up on it, updated the bios, and followed the settings that are given in the ds3 thread in the motherboard forum.

Everything went ok and when I reached 3ghz he said he was happy with that so I began testing for stabilty. I ran orthos for a few hours and had no problems and temps were fine.

But for some reason after I rebooted the settings reset themselves. It didn't change the voltage settings. But the memory settings went back to auto and cpu clock control settings were disabled.

Now if I change any of them settings it just boots as far as the gigabyte screen then restarts and resets them again. I've tried lowering the cpu multiplier and setting the PCI Express Frequency at 102 and upping the PCI-E OverVoltage Control by +0.1v, and obviously lowering the fsb etc. But nothing seems to work no matter what settings I choose if I change the memory or fsb settings it just resets them before it even boots into windows.

I really don't know what else to try or if there is something wrong with the mobo. I've changed the bios back to the f4 version but I'm still having the same problem :(

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance

Billy

Did you make sure that you disabled Speedstep and the other stuff that is recommended in the sticky?

Yep, I disabled everything it said. Even if I leave the fsb at stock, if the cpu clock control is enabled it just boots as far as the gigabyte screen then restarts and resets it back to disabled, even if I underclock it lol.
