Gigabyte G1.Sniper Z87

Fluidz, have you sorted yours out yet?

I think I've found where the crackling noise was coming from. It looks like it was down to a loose power connection into my monitor, causing voltage spikes to leak through the electrics to my amp, so not a problem with the motherboard. I changed the monitors power cable, and those crackles seem to have disappeared, for now.

As for windows/bios crashing, I formatted the Hd and since had no problems at all with booting. in fact it boots much faster too (may be down to a fresh install of windows). Originally, when I upgraded to the Sniper, coming from another Gigabyte board, I didn't format the Hd, hoping it would configure itself, and all was ok apart from the freezing at boot. I used windows 8's own reset feature but this never cured the freezing. A complete format did the trick. Maybe the ssd was configured to my previous mobo..

All good for now, hopefully it stays this way. Fingers crossed.

Going to take my mobo out of the case tonight when i get in and plug it in with just 1 stick of ram, cpu cooler and fan and psu connectors straight into it to see if it fires up.

If it doesnt i have access to a 700w Coolermaster Modular PSU that is Haswell certified to see if that works, will also try my psu back in my z68 rig. fingers crossed the motherboards not borked and doesnt need to be RMA'd

Plugged in a 700w coolermaster silent pro haswell certified psu and still the same problem. Orange blinking power button. Thats with the mobo out of the case and just 1 stick of ram plugged in. Also just the 24 and 8 pin power plugged in. I have removed the battery and tried resetting cmos, also tried both bios switch settings and always the same flashing orange power button..

At a loss what to do next

Checked cpu socket carefully for any bent pins?

Thats what I was thinking or a faulty motherboard/cpu.
I'm guessing there arent any numbers coming up on the 2 digit display on the motherboard. Does the manual say anything about a flashing power light?
Oh and what would happen if the ram wasnt compatible with the motherboard?

Stulid have you used one of these yet? If you have would be interesting to hear your thoughts on it

I have checked the pins and they all look perfect to me, i have tried 2 different psu's, i have no way of verifying if the CPU is faulty or not though as i only have the 1 Haswell Motherboard. No lights have ever come up on the LED, all ive ever gotten from the minute i set it up is a flashing orange button on the motherboard, ive raised the issue with Gigabyte, followed all the troubleshooting tips they gave and its still not working :(

Im fairly sure the ram is compatible? this is what im using

1.5v rated? should be fine i think? its fairly common ram. Ive raised an RMA with OCUK, will send the CPU back also to see if thats faulty and not the mobo.

Im using corsair vengeance pro (1.5v) with mine, no problems at all.

If everything is definitely plugged in and seated Ok and it all works Ok on another system and you have followed gigabytes fault finding guide then it does sound like you have been unlucky and got a faulty motherboard or cpu :(

yeah but i would like the cpu checked also to make sure its working otherwise i just have to send it back if it is faulty and wait even more.

Send them both back i guess and ask if OCUK can check the CPU is working or not

Has anyone had any issues with the front panel audio or usb3.0 headers?

My front panel mic doesn't work at all (it works fine when connected to the motherboard mic jack), the HD_Audio cable is seated correctly, and the front panel headphone jack works fine.

Also I'm getting issues with the front panel usb3.0 ports when using a usb3.0 device with lots of dropouts, format disk popups, and disk paging operation in errors in windows logs.
I know the disk is perfectly healthy, and I don't get these issues when using the usb3 device on the motherboards usb3 ports.
The front panel usb3 ports seem to work fine with usb2 devices.

To make things extra strange these 2 issues are on 2 identical pc's that I've just ordered and built from OcUK.

N.B The case is a corsair 750D.

It's very odd that I would get these 2 issues on 2 brand new builds, but I'm trying to determine whether the faults are caused by the mobo's or the cases.

(N.B I've asked the same in the Case Central forum - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=25523091&postcount=147

Any advice or thoughts appreciated.

I installed all the drivers from the dvd that came with the motherboard.
Downloading all the drivers for Win7 64bit from Gigabyte's site now.
My installed Intel USB3.0 Root Hub driver version is 2.5.0.19, which is the same as the one on Gigabyte's site, but the site has a newer date.

It's worth a try I suppose.

Sadly those more upto date usb3 drivers made no difference to the front panel usb3.0 ports.

Both (one much worse than the other) will detect the usb3 device being connected, then either give 'format disk' error, mount the drive ok but give lots of disk errors in the windows logs.

The same usb3 device plugged directly into the motherboard usb3 ports works flawlessly.

I know its totally bizarre. But I'm stuck not knowing whether its a case or motherboard issue.

I've raised a ticket with Corsair, I'll raise one with Gigabyte also and see what they say.
