**Gigabyte Super OC GTX 480's - VERY LOW PRICES!**

do you think 3 of these would be out of the question? as in heat and fan noise?

currently thinking of upgrading my 3x o/c 285's and these look good price-wise.

psu is 1250w so thats fine but does this new cooler reduce heat more?

also how overclockable is the SE version compared to the SOC card? can it reach the SOC settings?

The amount of heat created will be exactly the same as any other 480. The cooler is just better at moving the heat away from the gpu and putting it somewhere else, in this case it will be dumped into your case.

I don't think this is correct (please correct me if I am wrong!). Gigabyte say these are cherry picked chips that consume less power and are more overclockable than a standard 480. Reviews would suggest that when idle these chips use around 9 watts less than a standard 480 and on average consume nearly 20 watts less. I would have thought this would translate into a cooler chip before you take into account the better cooler?

i'm building a new pc and i can't make the decision between the 480 SOC £215 with 10%; and the 480 SE £200 this week; i would rather not have any problems but which is the better value/ wont cause any hassle.

To be fair if the clocks aint stable then return the SOC, I'm one of the lucky ones it would seem since I'm sitting with a stable SOC :D

I have another pci e slot but its 4 x is there any point in using my 8800gtx for the phyics or will the new card be good enough on its on?

Yeah if the chips have the same power efficiency you're right. If it does use 9w-20w less power and they both have the same power efficiency then they will produce less heat. Amount of power that gets converted to heat is the only thing that will determine the chip's intrinsic temperature (or temp output).
If the cooler is better then that will also cause it to get less hot. Though that is by trying to reach room temperature by conducting, radiating and convecting the heat faster.
If the chip is producing less heat then the job it has to do above is easier. After you turn the computer off the chip will eventually reach room temp anyway, after an infinite amount of time.
