**Gigabyte Super OC GTX 480's - VERY LOW PRICES!**

Yea...but that's 648W off the wallsocket, not the PSU output. So any decent 600W PSU with 80 plus efficiency should be fine (of course have to check the how many As are on the 12V rails as well).

I never said that you would need a 648W+ PSU in order to run this, you did :D

The only thing I said is that this card and a normal i7 system will use up 650W in some cases.

I am not denying your results I am just going by the Hard OCP review results which I trust.

From here ...

Here's the thing, the 480 doesn't have the power limiting capabilities of the newer 5** and 69** series cards, so they are engineered to run at the near theoretical maximum that Furmark artificially creates.

The newer cards are power limited, so they throttle under Furmark load, they would STILL use around the same power if they weren't throttled, just the newer cards aren't designed to handle that kind power load anymore so its dangerous for them.

Furmark is not needed to test cards, so avoid. Heaven does a better job of finding artifacts with less temps I find anyways.

well i was going to buy but now i am hanging at the mo. After reading it drawing 648w from the wall and my psu is 650w antec will it be enough to power the 480SOC and the rest of my rig (spec in sig).
I know a few of you guys have said yes but will it really?

Thanks..

That includes speakers and monitor; the whole gameplay experience:-

To measure power consumption, we used FurMark to load up the video cards and a P3 International Kill-A-Watt device to measure power consumption. The entire testing system, excluding the speakers and monitor, was plugged into the Kill-A-Watt device. Therefore, power consumption numbers include all components, not just the video card.

nice I suppose if yo uwan tot calculate your energy consumption but not if you want to know if your PSU is up to it. Guru3D shows the GB being better than vanilla in their test. I suppose they are not stressing the CPU though either so its a bit of a useless metric.

welll i've just got off the phone from ocuk, spoke to very nice chap who knew what is what talking about.
Told him what my spec was and what is OC in my pc and i want to buy a the 480SOC and ask will my psu run all of it, his reply was "NO, i am borderline if my pc was not OC but it is and it not worth it. I would need a min of 750w psu."
so i've got my answer and i think i will hold out now til the 7xxx comes out or get the 570.

Thanks guys for all your help.

After adding then removing from basket all day I'm going to pass because the PCB is BLUE! No way to fit it into either of my OCD colour coded builds. Urgh.

Hmmm, Im tempted too. I have a Corsair 650hx PSU. I have a Q6600 @ 3.4ghz and currently a 5870.

Is the 480 soc better than a stock 570?

I'll prolly get a 3D monitor to go with it.

What games do you play djkay?

Your card is already pretty good and you can also overclock it. I say that you will not gain much and the upgrade will cost you at least £100!

TBH, not very taxing :P

WoW and prolly in the future TOR and GW2. I'm just tempted by 3D. I do realise that the expense for something i've never trialled.

Without considering 3D, I guess the 5870 is perfectly ok. I know about HD3D but im not too sure about that.

I'd go 480 SOC over a 570 any day of the week, and I'd say you'd appreciate a 120hz 3d monitor for the 120hz over the actual 3d as I've found I tend to use 3d for a select few games as it tends to become difficult to appreciate the 3d the more you use it if that makes sense. The fluidity 120hz provides though is excellent, and blows 60hz out the water.

I dont really think it's worth the upgrade unless you really love 3d.
